I was laid off in July, 2008, and got my PCa dx. a month later in August, 2008.  It's been a tough 22 months fighting both cancer and its complications, as well as being unemployed.  Today, I accepted a job offer, and will be starting the new position late in June, or around the first of July.  I am the first Chief Financial Officer of a major company that supplies the paper mill industry.  My office will be located in Greenville.

My next concern is my current health situation, which will still make it difficult for me to be working full time, but I will have to cross one bridge at the time.

That is wonderful news.  

As to working full-time, is there any way you can operate at times from your home? Since this seems to be a start-up, it sounds like you will have at best, a small staff and hopefully one of those employees may stand out to back you up, when you are home.

Anyhoo, I agree, cross the bridge when you have to and in the meantime, best of luck!

Not a startup, they been around 14 years, but never had high level accounting/finance help, but now that they are going big time international, they need a someone like me. No chance of working from home, originally he said yes, but since changed his mind. If I were off the catheter, wouldnt be so bad, but to wear one 10-12 hrs a day include commuting, and then 5 days a week, will cause a lot of pain. Its hard for me to wear it now for 4-6 hrs at a time.

I have a month to figure out things,or perhaps my dr's next step will help eliminate the need to continue one. Dont have all the answers.

This position started with 400 resumes, and I was one of 16 they actually interview, so beat a lot of odds to get to this point.

Good for you, Dave. I'd say that being at work may be better than being at home. At least for your mental health.

Terrific news!!!.........perhaps as you feel your way in this new company, the situation may arise where' it's favorable to divulge your medical situation. If they realize at that time what an asset you are, it may be one of those concessions a company makes to accommodate an important employee. Getting to that point, where you build up your gravitas while managing your catheter is another story. But as you say, one bridge at a time--------time to celebrate for sure.

Thank you, one and all. Excited and scared at the same time, what helped, was that all owners and principal players are older than me, been in that industry a long time, so didnt feel the normal age bias I have felt on recent interviews.

Besides the SE US, they do biz in South America, Mexico, India, China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, South Africa, and northern Europe. May be some future travel out of it too. First stage is for me to set up proper Financial and Adminstrative operations here locally.

If my dr's plan worked, and I could finally be off of caths by August, this could really work in my favor, so the delay in starting was a good thing to me.

Just got in from the doc appointment and came here right away looking for this news. After our phone conversation yesterday I was feeling real good about your outlook for the future. Must admit to saying a few extra prayers and blessings last night for this outcome.

Fantastic my brother. Something like this is sure to make it a little easier to have a positive outlook as you go forward.

Can't tell you how happy Lynn and I are to see this wonderful post.

David, congratulations on the wonderful news! One step at a time ... I know being on the catheter is a concern once you're commuting. But, my Italian female intuition is telling me that this won't be too big an issue come July 1.
