Do you ever put off getting a PSA Test??

I think I have...like now.

My first PSA test post-surgery was done on 3/10/10. That was actually about the last day during the recommended time interval of getting the first test. I am now supposed to do this every 3 months. That means June10.

Well, I had a good excuse. On June 9 I had to leave for KC to help grade the Calculus AP Exams. I could have done the PSA earlier, but I certainly wouldn't want to go there with bad news. I wanted to be in a decent frame of mind as the task involved a lot of mental effort and I needed a clear mind.

I came back late Thursday. I could have done the test on Friday, but I needed a day to relax and unwind. It is now Monday and I am thinking of just waiting until Tuesday (this time not even a remotely good reason).  I may still go and get it done now, however!

Sighhhhh...

Incidentally, I will have the results the next day.

Mel, go get the test done. You didn't go through all this to slack off now.

Hi Mel - just do it. I had my second one a couple of weeks ago, and due to glitches with the lab and doctor's office, it took me four days before I had the nerve to call and get the result - usually I get them the next day too. The uncertainty is more of a worry to me than knowing - if it is not the result we expect, at least we know and can plan the next steps.

Mel, geez, do you like playing mind games with yourself. You know you need to have the test, you have had many before, no big deal, and whatever the number is going to be, is going to be there just the same.

Do it any time you like - but be consistent. Same time of day, same lab, same eating schedule, same sexual activity (if applicable). Remove all the variables you can control.
I have mine done in the morning and go out for breakfast after.
And no sex the previous 2 days - but that's not much of a sacrifice for me. :-(

What's worse...knowing or not knowing? Why even beat yourself up over this? I am sure by now you have figured out, the statement "It is what it is" and how it applies to everyone here on this forum.

Don't put of the test. We are all weary of getting or PSA test but it is better to know than not. Get it done and hopefully you will have a good result and a big sigh of relief.

Good for you, Mel...I know it's hard and sometimes you just want it all to go away. You did the right thing...hope to hear great news from you shortly.

Wishing you another big "0" Mel...    They actually get a little easier down the road...  At my lab,  if you get the sample in by 10:00am,  you can get the results in the afternoon.

Not that I am anxious or scared about any upcoming tests,   if I have one due Nov/Dec,  I will postpone it to early January...     We have had a couple of very depressing Thanksgiving/Christmas times in our marraige due to PCa,  and my dear wife and greatest supporter loves the holidays and family celebrations.   I just want that time for her to be "uneventful" for the rest of our days.   She deserves that and the month or two does not matter for the test.

I think you misinterpreted my post. There was no suggestion of NOT doing the PSA.

Just putting it off... a tad!

Yep, I shore have. I needed to have one this month prior to my 1 year mark. I put it off a few weeks but did it a week and 1/2 ago. I knew I had to do it but bad news would be a bummer. Results were clean like the others but the fear is always there. I guess one just has to "man up". Cheers.

I never put it off. Sometimes I even go early. Mel, I think we all suffer what someone posted some time ago P.I.S.S. (PSA Interval Stress Syndrome).

Go get the test. Hoping for another big fat 0 for you and then you are done until the next one. Don't guess what may or may not be. Go get the test and find out the results.
