Finished 38 treatments yesterday. Drove 7600 miles and bought about $700 in gas.

Very few side effects.

Now we wait 3 months - for next PSA - is that a normal amount of time?

Congrats Tim, I start my SRT end of July. By the way, I'm passing through Maine tomorrow and Monday. Leaving Campobello Island in the early afternoon, staying in New Harbor for the evening, and heading back to CT the next day. Spent 3 days in Bar Harbor on my way up to PEI last weekend. Very nice spot. BB

We are about 30 miles from Lubec. I always enjoy Familt Fish on Campabello. Glad you enjoyed your visit to Maine.

glad you got thru the radiation my friend. Three months I would see is fairly typical wait time because radiation works for a long time after you complete treatment. I was told that if they tested you immediately after treatment and your PSA was not down the patient would think it failed so they wait for the rads to complete their job.
It will be a great result

Tim,

Congrats on completing radiation. Took my first PSA after 6 weeks to see if there was a trend and my next one will be at the 6 month mark which will be in November. Nice area that you live in and if I am correct Lubec is one big county. Take care.

Hi Tim,

Congratulations on completing your SRT. Good to read that you had very few side effects. I was tested about 5 weeks after completing my SRT and then every 6 month there after. Hopefully all remaining bad cells were vaporized.
All the best to you and may you have many zeros in your future.

Tim,

Glad you finished your radiation. Hopefully you wont be dealing with too many post radiation side effects. Being from NH, I miss the state of Maine. From where we lived in NH, it was closer to do major shopping in the Portland area. And every year up there, the Fryburg Fair was a must for my family.
Good luck in the next step of your recovery.

Tim, enjoyed Family Fisheries, also Capt Tibby's across the bridge in Lubec. Thanks for the recommendation. Heading back to CT shortly. Question on your SRT, you traveled quite a ways. Are you retired? If you are still working, how did you manage the time away from work? I will be traveling to Boston and round trip will be 4+ hours per day. I plan to file for short-tern disability, but probably won't get it and may have to take unpaid leave. BB

I retired last October.

However, my former employer, the State of Maine, would have allowed partial day family leave for radiation treatments under the family leave act. Under that set of rules, I could have used a few hours a day sick leave until it ran out. Then used vacation time, then go to unpaid leave. Check your states and employers family leave policies.

Yes 90 day/3months wait for a PSA is about right to allow the RT to have an affect on the cancerous cells, their DNA etc and thus the PSA.

I love a good coast. Lived by the sea as a kid. (Mind you you can never be more than 65 miles from the coast in the UK.) Now I'm about 3 miles from the sea in Holland, but it's mainly bars, the smell of beer and suntan lotion, though there is a fishing port too. It's ferries I don't like: 8 hours to cross the North Sea in a gale.
