First post cryo psa!

Hello everyone -

My husband had his first post cryo psa test done last Wednesday.  Today we got the results, 1.980.  Is this good?  We don't go back to see the doc till next Thursday.  He (the doc) had said it should be 1 or less.  I'm a little worried.  Does anyone have some input that might be helpful?

What was his PSA before?

Before the procedure, his PSA was 19.  Gleason 3+4=7. His tumor was stage 2b.  This was based on dre only.  We did not know for sure about his nodes.  His CT scan of his pelvis and abdomen was negative.

Also need to know how long since his Cryo.

Cryo on March 22nd. So it was exactly 90 days from date of cryo to date of psa test.

Why did you decide on Cyro? We don't see as many men choosing that treatment as others here. With a Gleason 7 and a pre-treatment PSA of 19, sounds like there was a pretty good case of PC going on at the time.

Did you husband have other health issues that had to be factored into a treatment decision, i.e. heart condition, prior surgeries, diabetes, etc.

Perhaps if you could make a signature of your husbands stats, it would be easier for us to follow and understand his journey thus far.

Well, as has been said, some of this takes time. Some cells are still dying, so PSA may take a little while to dissipate.

The other real fact is that cryo is still a newer treatment choice on this forum. We don't have a huge experience data base. Hopefully some of the cryo guys will check in.

My husband is 77. I think he is a very young 77. But the docs said they did not do rp on patients older than 65. They said the older men did not do too well with the surgery. So our only choices were cryo or radiation with hormone therapy. My husband said he thought the cryo was his best shot at getting rid of the cancer.

I would like to do a signature like that, but how do you do it? lol

Go into the My Profile box on top of forum page. Then tak edit profile. At the bottom of that dialog box is the signature section. That is where we put our story. That way you only have to type it in once.

You can even put your name in there so you don't have to retype it either.

Your husband's age makes perfect sense for Cyro as being his treatment choice. Surgery would have been hard with his age, and radiation and HT can be gruelling at best. Thanks for sharing
