Hi everyone,
Hope all is well with you. Thanks to all friends at HW. I am 100% sure that you guys all mean well and everybody is honestly conveying their success and experience with me and others. I sincerely appreciate, and frankly its OK for individuals to be biased toward one or another treatment. After All our doctors are so why not the patience.
Regarding CT Scan. I did mine yesterday and as Tudpuk ( Jim ) noted, the primary reason was for mapping ( generating an X-Y coordinate), so when they have the Ultrasound probe in my body and the Grid Plate ( tic-tac-to/ battleship game) under me, he can find exactly where to insert the needle ands release the seed. I am sure the scan could show to some extent if the PC has escaped elsewhere. It can not possibly show anything .
My Oncologist for Brachy and oncologist for external radiation, told me because the number of cores are more than the original biopsy interpretation, they recommend both internal Brachy and external. This way if there is any Pca at the exterior of the capsule, and adjacent are it will all be taken care of. As such the dose rate is lowered for brachy to be about 85-90% and 50% external. In combination I will get more than a single method yet at lower rate and six weeks apart so as not to cause any adverse affect to other organs such urethra, rectum, seminal. In response to my question as why not to RP or Robotic and remove it, the answer was if Pca is not contained and they find out after pathologist gets his/her hand on it, I would not only go through the ordeal normally associated with the RP or Davinici, and back to square one, as I will end up going through 10 weeks of External Radiation.
Having heard that and being tired of worrying and afraid that darn thing may grow faster, I signed up for the Combo Treatment.
I am now waiting to hear from my Urologist who will coordinate, the seed implant at the local hospital where the expert oncologist
will do the Brachy, followed by IMRT 4-6 weeks afterward.
A question for all good friends, somewhere in this forum, I read that eating sweets will help Pca to grow faster. What is the reason if it true. Also why can't man have his drinks (beer, scotch, wine) and or coffee after surgery. From reading the posts and the books, no matter which treatment option we choose we should have a bathroom close by for the first few weeks. As far as beer and drink i only drink when I am at my home, where I don't have to worry about DUI, etc.
In another post it was mentioned to refrain from eating meet ( i can understand that), and milk products. What is the side affect of dairy?
Between us cyber friends, my gut tells me do nothing wait 2 more months and pick another urologist and lab do another biopsy, and see what the result is. It could be that these guys are just looking for customer. I think this issue has affected my faculty and level of trust. little I had to begin with.
Best regards
