I read a couple of articles on websites today suggesting that coffee or alcohol consumption can affect psa results. For example, one site, which was linked on the Yannow site, stated: "
Alcohol and Coffee: Both can irritate the prostate and should be avoided for 48 hours prior to blood being drawn." I had never heard that before. Have any of you received that advice, or otherwise looked into this?
Even if this is true, I am wondering whether I should follow this advice. My reasoning: PSA trends may be more important than absolute values, and I have not abstained from coffee or alcohol in advance of prior PSA tests. So maybe better not to do so in the future either, so that my results are comparable. (Same idea as using the same lab/assay).
Thoughts?
