Hello,, has anyone experienced problems with night sweats after surgery? mine started just a few days after surgery, now three weeks out I still get them on occassion. Last night my t-shirt and pillow were soaked. Feel fine otherwise.

Friends, sounds like you're going through menopause. My guess is your hormones are in flux without a prostate. Just curious if you've checked whether you are running a fever. The body's temperature is naturally higher at night but it is possible you are running a mild infection somewhere. Since you feel fine otherwise, I'm willing to bet that there is no infection involved but simply your hormones going a bit nuts. Have you spoken with your doctor about this?

I seem to recall having a few bouts of the night sweats after surgery as well. It is mentioned in other threads and seems to be fairly common. Hopefully it will pass in a few weeks.

Freinds,

  Did you take pain killers for an extended period (a week or more) and them stop suddenly?  Sweating is a common symptom of opiate withdrawls.  I have had many,many surgeries and know this from experience.  Does the sweating only happen at night, or does it also happen just sitting still for no reason?

actually, I did take my Rx painkillers frequently for the first couple weeks, mainly to help numb the false nighttime urge to urinate and also to help with the backaches from cialis (which I stopped). You might have hit on the cause, it does seem that the sweats are associated with the times I stopped the pain meds. I have no fevers or sweating during the day, just at night.

ejn, thank you for the response, I did a quick web search and I now believe it was from using the pain meds for too long. Haven't used them since Monday and they are getting put away.

I hope all goes well with your upcoming surgery on the 11th. Keep us posted.

I had nite sweats at least for 3 weeks post op, this without an infection. Pretty normal. I also had penile pain upon urination for at least 6 mos post. Not excrutiating but bothersome. I' close to 10 mos post op, dealing with ED, slow progress but real progress. Other than that I feel as good if not better than preop. Have always been a fitness freak, not that PCA cared.

your welcome.  Pain killers have their place and I cant imagine some recoveries without them.  It is important to use them as directed to stay on top of the pain or it gets more difficult to manage it.  I will gladly give up a little sweat to have reduced pain recovery.  You might also have noticed a breif panic attack or anxiety at the same time you were sweating.
