So will the newspaper guy/PCa survivor turn out to be a good guy, or a fink? Time will tell. Lots of time.

I'm betting he'll turn out to be a good guy, but there'll be other bad guys (and girls) to make the story more ineresting. And longer.

Today's 9/4 update:
In Rex's office,
Secretary: "Doctor, the Mayor is on line three... He says it is urgent!"
Rex: "Tell him I'll call him right back!"
Sec: "No that wouldn't be an option... He sounds about ready to explode!"

Sec: "He says he has evidence that you violated HIPAA rules on July 8th when you told June 'My first patient is the Mayor... I have to tell him he has PROSTATE CANCER!'
He wants your ENTIRE practice!"

(At least that's what it says in my paper.)

Of course he has evidence -- it's in over 300 newspapers in the country!

First they'll blame June. Then Abby (their kid). Then the dog.

But we know the real culprit is Stu's wife, who earlier that day (8/11 in our time) sobbed to her trusted friend on the phone when asked why she is crying, "Oh it's Stewart! He was just diagnosed with PCa! He hasn't TOUCHED me in years... Since he hired DIANE as his campaign manager! Maybe now he'll stay HOME on Friday nights!"

(At least that is what it says in my paper.)

In the "Who spilled the beans?" pool, I'm betting on Stu's wife, Rose (aka "Pumpkin"). He's consumed by his job, to the point where (as Jeff pointed out) he's got no time for her. I've been told, and my own experience confirms, that women don't like that. So she figured she'd kill his re-election chances to get him back -- obviously she hasn't thought this through. This allows room for sub-plots that can keep the strip going for months, but I wonder if there's any synchronization between comic-strip time and real time come November 2?

9/7 update
Stu: "How can you be so sure June didn't tell someone about this?"
Rex: "June told no one...I'd stake my life on it! And Quint Davis said the voice mails were anonymous?"
Stu: "Yes, but Quint's not telling anyone either...He's a cancer survivor himself!"
(said Stu, spilling Quint's secret health information a mere 30 seconds after Quint graciously agreed to keep his.)

09/12 update

The Mayor's secret is out and the culprit will be identified... (My money's still on Pumpkin.)

In Rex's office talking with Secretary:
Secretary to Rex: "The only possible source of a leak could be the Urologist."
Jeff: "Absolutely! I was continent until I met mine. Now I'm at 2 pads per day."

(At least that's what it says in my paper.)

The opponent's aide says "...it came <B>directly</B> from someone close to the mayor." I guess we can hope that Pumpkin is about as close as you can get...

Slower than a T2, Gleason 5 tumor in an 80 year old. Our imagination moves much faster.

I figure Pumpkin's making squash with the challenger's aid while Stu and Diane enjoy the incumbent seat.
"Engage." says Stu. "Yes Captain" says the ever-faithful Diane.

June: "You're not suggesting...?"
Rex: "Hey, as Stu said, Anything's possible!"
Rex's nurse, Becka, a.k.a. 'The Rack': "The Mayor had his biopsy done at the hospital... Let's not forget them!"

Rex: "And let's not forget the outsourced biopsy slide reading center in India that is under no US obligation to keep records private. You don't actually think American doctors looks at those do you? They are scanned and emailed to Delhi faster than you can say 'Great Ganesh'! "

it appears "the rack" has a brain as well - could be "family" that spilled the beans - would this be leading up to a climax in the sunday paper - stay tuned for future development...

my guess is "pumpkin" poured her heart and soul out to her hairdresser.. or maybe... Bunny, her former sorority sister (stu's ex-girlfriend who was knocked up in university)

Yeah, it was that mysterious phone call in the last panel of the 8/11 strip... I like the idea of Bunny. Eventually Carlos will find out and be terrified, thinking it's an STD and that he'll get it from Pumpkin. He goes to the local free clinic to get checked out by -- guess who? Ooooh, I'm loving this.

the plot thickens on Rex Morgan M.D. ..... the smarmy councilman knows all about the Mayor's cancer.. courtesy of the chatterboxes at the local diner.... you know you are in trouble with you are the topic of conversation between rounds of Flo's ever flowing pot of coffee ....

.. up here in Canada, you're in trouble if they talk about you at the Legion Hall ( Veterans and others gather there) between rounds of Molson's Canadian and Labatt's Blue ... or maybe at Tim Hortons ....

... my dibs is on Pumpkin telling her hairdresser ( the phone call in an earlier panel to confirm her appointment to get rid of the telltale roots...) ... who told the groundskeeper's wife who told Flo who told...

And that will be the last time Stu tells Pumpkin anything of importance again. Clearly she cannot be trusted to keep a secret.

Quite the opposite of the loyal and ever faithful Diane who has never uttered a word about that special weekend she and Stu had in Thailand with the wheel of warm brie cheese and the 18 year old triplets, Lawan, Kanya, and Sukhon.

The 9/21 update This is a great comeback, useful for those of us still in the PCa closet.

(In Stu 's office talking to the sleazeball councilman/used car salesman, Dick, who just asked if the rumors of Stu's cancer are true.)

Stu: Dick, Did you alert the media when Linda left you last year?
Dick: No...Why would I do that, Stu?
Stu: Exactly... It was a PRIVATE affair! It's the same with me... My health is none of your business!

Stu: "Now get out, before I have Diane spill the rest of this hot coffee in your lap."

I was thinking I should stop updating this thread but my wife pointed out that there were over 1900 views here so apparently quite a few people are interested and enjoy the break.

Your wife is correct! This is fun to read, and thanks for keeping it going.

Still the story is moving so slowly. Maybe we should invent an additional plot line. Stu decides to join the gang at HealingWell.com. But he want to be anonymous, so he uses a pseudonym. Calls himself "jeff". Tells HW what really goes on "between the frames" at Rex Morgan, MD...Wait a minute, this is already happening!
