David I wish you all the very best for this surgery. Here's to it giving you the relief you richly deserve. We seem to be able to make adjustments in our lives to overcome and adapt to most things but constant pain will drag the best of us down. Good luck my friend and recover well.

Dave,

Sorry I was not able to get back to you about getting together for lunch before your surgery but I had some complications of my own.

san carlos, that's ok. left you the message i believe, we can hook up sometime when i am recooping from this next surgery. meeting my ex boss for lunch monday, then from wednesday on, will be on clear diet only prior to surgery, then will be on a feeding tube for at least 3 days after surgery. there's another new brother that lives close to you and i, perhaps we could all meet at the same time. i hope your complications resolved themselves.

mel, same as before: 10 AM Thursday, September 23rd, St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, SC. We have to be there at 8 AM, means leaving the house by 0730, an unthinkable time to me, lol. As little as I sleep and as late as I get to sleep, I thought 0730 was a night time hour, lol.

will be my surgeons first and only surgery on that day, estimating 2 1/2 to 4 hours.

I hate early mornings, but my current schedule requires me to set my alarm at 7:00 AM every day. I still don't get to sleep until 1:00 AM or so. I am off-campus on Wednesday, so I can sleep in a bit that day.

I do find pain often keeps me up (such as this UTI). I rarely nap. But I do get some extra sleep on weekends and I also find I don't require that much sleep.

For 30 years I got up at 6:00 AM, so this isn't too bad!

mel, i come from a long line of insominacs to begin, have been on ambien for 11 plus years, and even with the pain meds, find it difficult both to fall asleep and stay asleep. i prob average 5-6 hours per night, max. but have been that way for years way before PC came on the scene.

oldest son is just like me. with all the pain in the past year, would rather be asleep for 20 hours out of the day instead of being awake most of the night. 6 AM? that's the devil's hours, definitely a night time hour in my world, lol.

David, I have never known anyone who has faced PC and it's complications, trials and pain as bravely as you. My wife and I will continue to keep you in our prayers and close to our hearts as you prepare for this surgery, and the great results we all want to see you recieve at long last! Maybe you can try out the new bike for New Years!

MJ and I have you in our thoughts and prayers I know this is going to be the one that gives you your life back.  You have been so strong and supportive of everyone else while you have been dealing with your own pain.  I thank you for all the support you have given me and wish you great results and a speedy recovery.

David, would love to do that! I've been pretty busy but, once the RV is backed out and and on it's way, it seems much easier to just keep going. I haven't mentioned the possibility of this to my wife yet. Thank goodness Worried Jeff has found a way to shrink text so our spouses don't immediately find out what is being planned! LOL. Actually, my wife was looking forward to going down your way more than a few times, recently.

I could fly her into Rochester and continue down, but, you've got some major surgery going on and will need some space for awhile.

Thank you always for the open invitation.

I will take you up on it soon.

In the meantime, get your surgery done and get on with what I'm sure will be a great improvement for you.

mike, i would still love that visit. definitely need to wait till i am well on my way through the healing stage of this next surgery. this is going to put me in a whole new world, and i am not sure when/how long it will take to see and feel improvements.

perhaps when it gets real cold your way, you and yours might like to sneak down here, even the worse winter here in western sc is mild compared to what you guys endure

its possible another infusion of good chocolate may be written up as script by my dr, only for medicinal purposes of course

sitting here in deep pain tonight. started up late this afternoon, as i attempted to take the wife, mother, and my visiting sister to an outdoor art festival, where the band that my two sons are in, were performing. had good weather and good attendence. i lasted about 90 minutes top, and then had to cut out and head home (myself only, was smart enough to take 2 cars in case). nice burning and stabbing pains. took some of the morpine based meds, but 2 hours later, stil hurting quite a bit. in 3o minutes, i can switch back to the loratabs, and hope that gives me some relief. i got to make it till next thursday morning, when the big surgery happens. at this point, looking forward to being put under, as i wont feel a hurt in the world in that blackness. its been tempting not to remove this cath and take my chance for a few days, but i know it would be sucide in a manner of speaking. i am fairly certain that i am mostly closed up again at the bladder neck, and any attempts to urinate on my own would be agganizing and painful, and i would be wishing for the cath, painful or not, to be in place. just got to make it a few more days.

David: Thinking of you as yet another "D-Day" approaches for you.
This morning at the supermarket a bar of expensive dark chocolate fell out of the trolley of a woman in line in front of me and even that made me think of you and your taste in chocolate. I'm having a no-chocolate day so eating fudge instead.

Have yet to exchange thoughts with my wife's uncle who now has external plumbing following bladder removal due to bladder cancer about five years ago, but he is now 76 and still drives a big off-road Mercedes so I guess he's not doing too badly. One thing to note on the basis of his experience is to watch out for infection after surgery.

I hope you will soon be experiencing a pain-free existence even if it's going to be a strange existence.

Alf - infection is my surgeons greatest concern. they already have me on a weeks worth of heavy duty antibiotics by mouth. as soon as i am at the hospital, they will continue it by IV.
