OK, some questions on this topic.

I was very pleased with the continence issue. I had minimal issues with incontinence and was 100% continent within 6 weeks post-surgery. So, that went well -- that's the good news.

The ED issue is almost the opposite. First of all, early on I took viagra, but that didn't do anything, so I stopped. I purchased a vacuum device, but never used it. In all honesty, for me the ED is the LEAST IMPORTANT issue by far (first is beating the cancer, which is still not looking all that great and second but very important was the aforementioned continence issue). But I digress.

I noticed that with enough stimulation, I can get an orgasm (quite pleasurable, too). It is ONLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER AN ORGASM that I get a decent semblance of an erection. But it doesn't last long and is not quite sufficient for my purposes. So, 2 questions:

1) I think I will get back on the pill (I think it is not the viagra but the other one that ADC sells). Have any of you had no success with the pill but then later success?

2) I am 9+ months post-surgery. The folks at Ford said I should get woody back in 1-2 years. Have any of you experienced the return after that length of time? Also, when it came back was it kind of sudden (like what is this thing standing up here)?

I really don't want to bother with a vacuum device or injections.

Early post op used of oral ED drugs is solely for healing purposes, NOT for usable erections. So it was indeed working

I have spoken to a number of men and they say that right around the 18 months mark things were close and by 2 years just about back to normal. I am at the 18 months mark and all of a sudden I get drug free full erections, it has clearly improved almost overnight.

The Oral meds are important now so that you get nocturnal erections, this prevents penile atrophy while your nerves are healing. It is extremely important that you take the ED meds when you go to sleep

It took me just over two years so don't give up and don't stop trying. May not be blue steel again but there is still a good bit of fun to had by both parties, just be creative and learn to enjoy the bennies. And remember no wet spot, how cool is that. And the orgasms, for most, they become more intense.

What's with the you don't want to "bother" with injections? What it they work like a charm?

    In the last 2 weeks I have started Trimex . Utilizing the advice found here,very conservative portion control and some luck I now have what my wife calls "injection erections". Absolutely worth the bother plus I feel it has awakened the nerves.

    My ED Doc has me taking 25mg ADC viagra on all evenings without injections and I now see it working better. Good luck on your journey.

Your story sounds like mine the erections came at orgasm and they have continued to come earlier and earlier. Have been on cialas from day one which is 18 months. Started using the pump after 3-4 months for therapy. Now I am on trimix low dose works great. I continue to take cialas twice a week. Patience, it takes time for most of us. Keep up the therapy it works.

I had a similar experience when I first started with ADC Viagara (Manly), no or little response 2 months out of surgery). I soon found that it took longer to take effect than I realized. At first I waited an hour, I found a big difference if I waited 1 1/2 to 2 hours after taking. At first it was not usuable (I augmented with a pump), but slowly came around over a 2 month period to the point where I stopped using the pump altogether.

I also had the same after orgasm "better erection" that you experience, it got me quite excited at the time since I knew there was life down there. I would think you are headed in the right direction, using the pump is not that big a deal, a small inconvenience for what may help things along.

Have faith..it will come, slowly  but surely.

It is like any other muscle. If you don't exercise it it won't be of much use. I'm at 15 months and occasionally don't need to use anything for sex. I still take 100mg viagra 4 to 5 times a week and I think I will cut a pill in half tonight. I was aggressive with the pump, injections, and meds for a year. It payed off. No pain, no erection gain. At least in my opinion. Haven't used the pump but maybe once in the last month. Stopped using injections because I didn't need them anymore over 3 months ago.

Hi Mel,

Like you I had minimal issues with incontinence and was pad free 9 weeks after surgery. Both nerves were spared. But 29 months later I still have ED. Viagra produces a reponse, but not a "usable" erection. It's better than it was shortly after surgery, but hasn't improved since about 15 months after surgery. I used Trimix injections for a while until I developed fibrosis / Peryronie's disease, which was about the same time I stopped seeing improvement in response from Viagra.

Whether it is due to the surgery or the trimix injections, at this point I don't expect to regain erectile function. Hopefully your case will be different.

Hi Mel,

I just reread your original post

You are not taking any ED drugs, nor using the VED pump and do not want to go the Inj therapy route

I understand that an erection is not be important to you know but if you do nothing you may never get an erection again, you are doing a lot of damage by doing nothing at all

There are hundreds of threads and thousands of posts on how to prevent penile atrophy

At this stage ED is the most important ( and only) thing that you DO have control over . You have no control of the cancer, it was removed and it may or may not come back, nothing you can do about that but YOU have complete control over having ED or not. There are things you can do now today, you have the VED, you have the ED drugs, read up on how to keep things from wilting away until the nerves restore

Pick up some walnuts, the L-Arginine and omega will do your heart, BP and ED a lot of good

Your priorties are the same as mine. Get the cancer first and then worry about the other stuff. Viagra never worked for me. However, Cialis does seem to work most of the time with the use of a VED pump. I think part of my issue is mental. Sometimes when I do not get an erection, I start thinking about cancer and lose all momentum.

Mel,

Even if you see no apparent results, keep taking the ED meds - my uro put me on Cialis, and the purpose is to keep the blood flowing. If I should even see an erection, it would be nice (with what they did to the nerves I don't expect a natural one), but that is not the immediate reason for the meds as explained by the uro.

The pump will, even if you do not use it with the bands, at least keep things stretched out, and again, keep blood flowing. This is one of those "Use it or lose it" deals.
