I was sent home from catheter removal with Depends underwear. After about two days, decided that was overkill so switched to Depends Guards. The Guards are OK, but I only have occasional leakage, so they too are more than I need. I could live with them, but don't feel my genitals get any air.

Any recommendations for a light weight liner or small pad?

The next lighter male guard is the Tena product. It is a little shorter and wider than the Depends, and absorbs less. It is thinner, so fits with a little less bulk.

The women's pads that many will suggest are very narrow, and you can expect to "miss the spot" if you are doing anything more than a slow drip. In that case (I can testify), thinking you are covered (but not) is worse than the discomfort.

All of them will be at least a little uncomfortable.

A reminder to all US patients prepping for surgery - you can go on line to depends.com and Tena.com and request a sample pack, and find monthly coupons that will lessen the bite a little.

I found Tena's pads to be a lot more comfortable.

I'm using depends regular absorbency Guards they are very thin and work for me.

Toward the end of my leakage I used woman's pads cut in half and stuck in the front of my Haynes. Worked great to catch the light drips.

Best thing about it was (in my head) the cashier was thinking "what a nice guy getting those for his wife" instead of "poor guy needs diapers at his age".

Before that I used the Tena pads.

Ditto on the Tena's. Just don't buy too many.

I imply the same thing. When I plop the bag on the counter I give the cashier my best "It's for my Dad, bless his old heart" look. I am such a good son, shopping for my Dad.
He doesn't get out much. Thank goodness! Considering he passed away 12 years ago.

Daveshan & Jeff - I know what you mean. My wife bought my first package of briefs. I bought the pads, and yes I was hoping no one saw be at the checkout counter.

Steve - I like your attitude about not buying too many.

Again guys, until one goes through this he doesn't know what to do. I really appreciate the advice. Thanks

I have the same embarrasment, when my wife offers to drop buy the store for pads I always go "whew". I'm at the point where I'm going to try a mens medium Tenna for daytime and a women pad for evenings and nights. That ought confuse them.

Buying too much?? I have 1 opened bag of mens diapers only used 3. I have one large open bag of highly absorbent pads used half. My wife took back some unopened bags for credit. How about prescriptions? I have a full (30) oxycodone never used 1.

If you are overwhelmed with pants & pads, check and see if your community has an elder care facility/ home care program or hospice - give them a call, they may be able to use them. Or if there is a local PCa support group - they may have some less fortunate members who could use them.

I wish I could give mine away, but still using them a year later ....

I use one to two light women's pads daily.  At first I was embarassed to pick them out and walk to the counter to pay, but after the first few times I got over that.  I've tried all the brands.  The men's pads are too heavy or don't fit me right.  I've settled-in on the "Maxi Pads" sold under the CVS Pharmacy brand.  I use the "overnight" pad which sits nicely in my BVDs and I barely feel them.  I wish I wasn't incontinent, and the flow increases and decreases for no apparent reason - but being cancer-free is more important to me than slipping a pad in my underwear each day.  Best wishes.

Good idea - thanks. I hope someday soon you will no longer need the pads.

Mavica - I may try the CVS Women's pads. It's only been 2 weeks since my RP, but I really do not need much. Thanks.
