First PSA result after 3 months on Zolodex

Hello everyone

Just thought I would let you know, Rick's first PSA after 3 months on Zolodex has fallen to 2.3

We are really pleased with this as it's quite early days yet. I know it's not at the undetectable stage but feel it's a really dramatic drop

Can't keep the smile of my face :-)

It IS a dramatic drop. And it will drop a bit more too. Here's our hope that it does, Julia. God bless you and keep it down.

Are we being naive in being pleased that his PSA has gone down to this level?

We really dont know whether it should have gone lower than this - the nurse didn't really comment very much

I know a fair few people have looked at this thread but not commented. Is this because it's not such good news?

Sorry to sound paranoid but I would rather know than have false hope

Any comments  would be gratefully received

Julia - any downward trend in PSA is a "good" thing. Don't ever hesitate to share with the group here. Often times we read a post but don't have anything specific to say, but everything we read helps and is important.

Congrats on the new lower reading . . . . . it'll only go down from here.

Hi Julia! Congrats on the downward trend! Cheers to the good news and best wishes for a continued fall!  Hopefully 2008 will be full of 000000's for you guys! 

P.S. Don't worry about not getting a lot of posts.  Often times I am guilty of rejoicing in good news and not leaving comments.  Some people are more of silent supporters, but know that you have the love and support of MANY!

Missy & Rick,

Yes, the PSA drop is a good one!  We know the feeling of waiting for the 3 month test as many others do here.  I believe every drop is a good one...Don's took a while to drop to where it is and yes, we wanted results quicker!  That's human nature...and perfectly normal!

You guys are doing well - stay strong in this fight and we'll be here for each other!

Its going DOWN. That's the good news, it has to go down to get to zero. Hopefully it will be there soon...

Julia,

My dear sweet friend. Any drop is great. Rejoice. Trends are everything. Rick's trend now is down. It will continue the slide to zero. Like my preacher always says, "you just gotta believe". The drop is major because of how far it dropped. 17 down to 2.3, that's huge. Keep the faith and keep pushing on. You are both in our prayers, as always.

Yes it is good news, I'm sorry for getting paranoid it's just that when I checked out other people's signatures their PSA levels seemed to go down a lot quicker.

HIs actual figures were 17.7 down to 2.3 and given that the actual time from having the first hormone injection to the first blood test was only two and a half months I guess this is pretty good going

Yippee for you two. Any drop is a good drop. Think of it as a percentage -- 17 to 2.3 represents more than an 80% drop.
I know it's tough to not only wait to get "The Number" every quarter [ask my very supportive wife she has to put up with me the day before labs] and it is human nature to wonder "was that enough of a decrease?" In my book any decrease is a good thing. It's taken me 15 months to get from 2640 to .0456 so as you can see from this post and the other kind posts every one reduces "The Number" at a different rate then others. Be happy!

Unfortunately this is an old thread. Rick had his first Zoladex shot and following blood test in 2007 -- three years ago. Since then his PSA continued to fall, but more recently has started rising rapidly.

Hi Julia,
That is dramatic drop in PSA. It shows that his PCa is responding well to the medication. Hopefully the trend will continue. Good luck moving forward.
