Rex Morgan, M.D. and PCa

Whoa! Action!

Only one day after Stu arrived, Rex encounters Jason King's receptionist, whose expression changes from haughty-nasty to come-hither when she learns he's a doctor. She'll "see what she can do" to accomodate Rex's request to see Stu. Tomorrow's Sunday, so we may see a confrontation in livid color, unless the storyline branches off on some subplot, perhaps involving the Thai triplets.

My cynical gland (enlarged, but cancer-free) says some money changed hands during the "conference", but perhaps politics is different in comic-strip land.

Update for 11/23 - Another walking statistic

(Rex watching Jason King and Stu shake hands like they're best buddies, each smiling like a Cheshire Cat eating a bird.)

Stu: "Jason, this is Rex Morgan...The best physician in town!"
Jason: "It's a pleasure to meet you Dr. Morgan. You know I'm a cancer survivor myself... Melanoma! "
Jason: "It's reassuring to know that the Mayor's prostate health is in such strong capable hands!"

Jason: "While you're here, would you mind looking at this lesion on my neck?"

Did Rex just pick up another patient? Will Jason play the cancer And divorce cards to get elected? Will Melanie and Pumpkin make it to Aruba?
And will Old man Moran ever get someone to fix that darn traffic light?

Update for 12/1: Women - It's all their fault

Jason plays the "Isabelle the Instigator" card and blames his actions on his wife.
Stu and Rex still on the street discussing and reliving Stu's Political Plutonium blast not unlike the triple repeats of explosions on low budget cop shows.

Stu: "It was about Jason's wife, Isabelle... That's why he was running!"
Rex: "What did Isabelle King have to do with it?"
Stu: "She wasn't appointed to the museum board and it hurt her feelings!"
Rex: "So did you promise to intervene and suggest Isabelle for the museum board?"
Stu: "Of course not,... there's always room for a good volunteer at the museum!"

Let's see, "Board member" vs. "Volunteer". Yeah... I'm guessing "Volunteer" isn't going to make her happy.

Who will offer the citizens a democratic choice and run against Stu in the election?
Will that traffic light ever be fixed?
Is Pumpkin in Bermuda expectantly awaiting Jason's arrival?
Will the PCa story line be dropped faster than Stu's HIPAA lawsuit against Rex?
And what will become of poor Mrs. Davis, left semi-naked on the table in Rex's examining room since Nov 14?

Stay tuned for some plot progress (ha!). As they part today, Rex tells Stu, "...we'll talk about treatment soon." I can't wait for that. (Literally -- my actuarial life expectancy is only 13.88 years, although with HT might it rise to 16.27 years? Hmmm. (Interpolating the SSA table at http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/STATS/table4c6.html.)) That means that "soon" in comic book time has to mean "within about 40 days and 40 nights" (very Biblical) if we use my carefully calculated CSTD (Comic Strip Time Dilation) factor of 125. Details on request.

Update for 12/4: The wrap up of the wrap up.

Without a ride from Becka or a 5 day walk, Rex is instantly transported back to his office where finds June anxiously awaiting his arrival, her top changed from her V necked "probe me" cardigan and into a stripped crew neck T shirt.

June: "What happened? Did you get there before Stu?"
Rex: "No. By the time I showed up, Jason had quit the race and they were pals!"
June: "What? How did that happen?"
Rex: "It's a story best told over a glass of wine in the sanctuary of our living room... Let's go home!"

June: "But what about Mrs. Davis? She has been waiting in the examining room since Nov. 14?"
Rex: "Forget about her. Let's go home and use my prostate while I've still got it. That's GFMPH!"

In case you're not at home sipping a glass of pre-coital wine. Here's what happened:

In the few minutes it took to get to Jason's office, Stu's daughter called and told him she made the Stu's prostate Pacebook page after hearing about it from Rose, his wife. Constituents yelled words of support as he walked along the street to meet Jason, his rival in the Mayoral race. Within the time it took Rex to get a DRE from the building's TSA agent, Jason admitted to Stu that it was his wife who was pushing him to run because of her blind ambition to be on the museum board. Stu implied that something could be done about that, and they greased palms shook hands, instantly becoming lifelong friends.

Update for 12/5: The wrap up of the wrap up of the wrap up.

At 1/125 of the speed of light we find Rex and June transported home and standing in their sumptuous kitchen, clothes changed and the wine bottles selected. Will they discuss PCa, or the leak, or the stress the Dalton family has been subjected to, or even Mrs. Davis, the forgotten patient left in Room 2 since Nov 14? Of course not.

June: "So Jason ran for Mayor because his wife wasn't appointed to the museum board?"
Rex: "Yes...and Jason thought Stu was behind it!"
Rex: "And this is our little town...imagine what it must be like in Washington D.C.!"
June: "I can't...that's what keeps me up at night!"

Rex: "We'd both sleep a lot better if we work on emptying the family prostate tonight!"
June: "Didn't I hear that regular activity is good for men's prostate health?"
Rex: "Many times, June! Many times! To GFMPH!"

I could be wrong, but it appears that today is the end of this story line that we have been following since July 8. Therefore, this is an appropriate time to review and see what the top takeaway messages are. Surely, after 5 months of daily updates on this single topic we must have learned something.

So, what three things did we learn from this story line that appears daily in more than 250 newspapers worldwide?

1) Politicians are a fickle, superficial lot and will change loyalties and emotions faster than a Vogue fashionista on amphetamines.

2) Women simply cannot be trusted.
-a. Stu's wife demands to know the results of his health check and then gets hysterical when he tells her.
-b. She blabs his secrets within 30 seconds of finding out.
-c. His daughter not only shoots her mouth off to everyone she knows but posts his "private matter" on the internet for all the world to see.
-d. Diane blabs to Rose and then asks Rose to lie and pretend it didn't happen.
-e. Diane misleads Stu and when asked, does not tell him that Rose knows about the leak.
-f. Jason's unfriendly receptionist immediately flashes the come-hither look an instant after learning Rex's profession.
-g. Jason King's wife, sight unseen, causes a political feud by demanding to be on the Museum Board thereby pushing Jason to run for office.
-h. Rex returns after being out of the office no more than 20 minutes to find June wearing a different shirt! What happened while he was out? Were she and Becka comparing bras?

3) Prostate cancer is some vague Men's disease.

I liked my story line much better...
...Meanwhile Stu, still pocketing the Ruger LCP, walks back to his office, Elsie Pea's muzzle nudging his doomed "private matter" with every step...

This thread might not have taught us anything about PCa, but with a hit count of over 7600, more than a few of you must have enjoyed the ride!

Update for 12/6:...of the wrap up. No surprises.

In the kitchen, Rex is reading the morning paper when June joins him for breakfast, the coffee's 3 foot long trail of steam indicating the Morgan tendency to spend little on home heating.

Rex: "Jason King kept his word...He's out of the Mayor's race!"
June: "Any comment from the Mayor?"
Rex: "Stu says, 'Mr. King is a dedicated member of the community and I wish him well'!"
June: "...And his wife will be on the museum board by the end of the week!"

Rex: "No surprise there! I don't see any mention of his PCa interview with the newspaper!"
June: "There's no need! Everyone already knows and supports him!"
June: "With his wife on the board and Jason out of the race he is now free to run for Governor!'

Politicians are as fickle as a G7 tumor with a T2a staging report... they can always go either way.

Meanwhile in Rex's office, the supremely patient Mrs. Davis, left in examining room #2 since Nov. 14, quietly slips to the great beyond, a victim of deep vein thrombosis.

Yup, that is one patient patient. I tend to open the door and lean on the frame, watching what's going on. Makes the staff squirm, hee hee.

Looks as if the PCa story is over with nothing medical accomplished. They'll talk about tx "later."

Not while I'm watching.

Update for 12/11: No Surprise.

Still at home discussing their poor finances, Rex and June decide to rob their child's college fund and give Berna the raise she deserves. At that instant, Berna looks at the lottery ticket she bought on 12/5 and discovers it's a winner. No surprise.

Here's the challenge: What will happen to Berna and the funds?
Will the story line discuss lottery addiction?
Will the excitement trigger a myocardial infarction?
Will she drag the Morgan practice into the 21st century by anonymously purchasing a piece of desperately needed diagnostic equipment?
Will the windfall enable Berna to replace the funds she has long been embezzling from the naive Morgans?

I vote she takes a tropical vacation with Dexter and catches a glimpse of Stu Dalton on his pre-treatment quest to empty his doomed prostate as often and in as many ways as possible.
