It was posted on a few forums, but I actually sent a copy to Mike the day it was posted here after i contacted the author. It took Mike a few days to get through it. I make a habit of sending stuff to Mike as he has a wonderful blog and he is prominent in the PCa advocacy.

Where there is smoke, there is fire...A few weeks ago, the Blum / Scholz book came out and created a HUGE buzz...Now these guys in Australia weigh in promoting the same viewpoint..This might force the Urologists, Surgeons, Radiation Oncologists to clean up their act and document in fact, what treatments REALLY work best..In doing so, as a side effect, they might help bring the exploding cost of cancer treatment under control....

Telling people "If you do this surgery, you have a 50% chance......." That does not cut it. They have to do better than that or people like Scholz and Chapman will eat their lunch and PC victims will suffer more than they already are...

But if this presentation is going to be used to convince Governments to reduce spending on Mens-Health, and if it's going to be used to convince men that the 'PC-Industry' is there to make a few doctors rich and that there is truly little to fear from PC-Cancer, then I think that some are very easily and wantingly convinced to do nothing ! 

Bottom line - Quoting from the book - 8% of men with PC will die from it !

and we accept that this is likely VERY conservative..   skull .  So we accept that PC will kill a great many more than the 8%

I do wish that I even had an 8% chance of winning Lotto !

PC   is NOT just an old age disease..   ( as with all diseases)   and I suspect that a good number of the 8% will be those tragic and high profile younger cases...  IMHO -- and as some would think - stupid opinion.

PS...  Mike Scott summarised the real situation very well - do read it..  Well done Mike..

and I am still disappointed to read in 'The Book' , what I had suspected for a long time, that 66% of men remain impotent after three years and presumably meaning that they ARE impotent after Nerver Sparing RRP..   The 'Fraternity' need to come clean on this Statistic..

15% of the men in the United states who are diagnosed with PC will die from it, not 8%..

Why men die....The Big Three...

Heart attacks..........25%
Cancer, all types.....25%
Stroke....................5.5%

Diabetes, car wrecks, pneumonia, suicide, kidney failure, liver failure account for the remaining 45%

Now, if you pull prostate cancer out of all cancers, you can say 4.5% of ALL men die of prostate cancer..

Aren't statistics fun??

This is exactly why some folks here shouldn't be so dogmatic about quoting stats and percentages as if they were undeniable facts. I have been a CFO or Controller for too many years. Just like financial reports, they will show whatever you want them to show, and of course, you can provide plenty of back-up material to prove your point. Just like a firm's inventory number is what they want it to be, one thing for the bank, another thing for tax purposes.

Our disease, i.e., PCa, is just too patient to patient unique. In my 2 years here, noticed just how different everyone's journey really are, how treatments vary so much person to person, how they are affected by side effects, and there is no rhyme or reason to it. Almost random sometimes.

I do think "Nerve Sparing" is oversold sometimes, just to many guys here that have had it to no avail.

Bottom line, reports and stats and percentages will prove what you want them to prove, if you dont like one set of numbers, dig around, and you will find a set that agrees with your thinking. Things reported aren't as exact or accurate as we think they are.
