7 week post RP psa is 1.07

My father's post prostatectomy psa at 7 weeks is 1.07.  Has anyone had experience with that high of a psa following surgery?

This conversation comes up all the time....More then half the guys like myself waited till week 12 before getting a PSA test. The tests earlier then 12 weeks can be less than acurate.

Yeah, me...(see history..) I'm having another test Wednesday when I'll be 12 weeks out.

He gets back from Egypt in 3 weeks and is supposed to have another psa test then.  If it remains high, then is further treatment typically recommended?

Without the post-op pathology (Primarily Gleason score and indications if there was EPE or lymph nodes involved) it is tough to say what steps are next.

I had a <0.1 PSA at 7 weeks out from DaVinci, but the pathology report was brutal, so I was sent off to RT immediately.

If the PSA remains high, the odds are that HT and/or RT would be suggested. The doctors will consider apparent spread, if any, outside the prostate when they make those suggestions. I'm just a patient, not a doctor.
I was warned that my post-op PSA was done "too early", so was prepared for bad news.

What was his PSA before surgery? Normaly it takes at least 8 weeks before all the PSA already in the blood is gone. I had my 1st PSA test 9 weeks after my surgery and it was <.1. Your Dad's PSA at 7 weeks does seem high so another PSA should betaken in another month.

His pre-op psa was 38, Gleason 3+4, negative margins/nodes/vesicules.  From what I'm reading this 1.07 seems very high for post-op but I also don't want to jump to pre-mature conclusions since 7 weeks may be early still to tell.

7 weeks out is way too early to draw any conclusion, many dr's insist on waiting a full 3 months as mine did.

Yes...I thought 3 months was the norm.
