Frogman posted the following in the signature thread on 11/5.......doesn't look like he's had any responses.
I'm new to this site. Age 66 and have been diagnosed with enlarged prostate for many years. Just came from Urologist who indicated thickening of the prostate on one side, something he had not noticed in past annual DREs. PSA was below 1 until 2003, when it jumped to over 4 for no reason; endured biopsy at that time- negative. Subsequent PSAs were 1.4, but jumped to 2.4 last year, and was 2.4 again this year, but DRE finding has doctor concerned and wants to do another biopsy. Does anyone have any insight on how concerned I should be and whether I should have the biopsy done or wait 6 months for another PSA test and DRE?
Welcome to the forum, Frogman. Sounds like your urologist has been on top of your situation for a while. With that as a backdrop, I would probably opt for a biopsy, if it were me, since he's already done one, and seems concerned with the DRE finding. Personally I'd rather know as early in the game as possible, so you can begin to consider all options---if in fact the biopsy is positive. Hopefully others will be along soon to share their opinions.
