Update for 12/18: A fool and his money...

As expected, Berna won the big lottery with the ticket she purchased on 12/5, and has spent the week with her brother, Dexter, rechecking her ticket and doing the math.
Odds of winning are 1 in 10 million.
The payout for $1 is $6 million.
The government gets half - that's $3 million.
The buyout instead of the annuity payout is $1.5 million.

Dexter: "It'll be tough, but we can live on a million and a half, Berna!"
Berna: "I'd like to buy a car, Dex... a brand new car!"
Dexter: "And I'd like to get one of those big screen HD televisions!"
Berna : "Maybe a visit to one of those exclusive beauty spas...that would be nice!"

Dexter: "I can finally have an implant installed and possibly get lucky before I die."
Berna: "And I can have some work done at the Joan Rivers Nip n' Tuck Clinic!"
Dexter: "Thailand, Here we come!"
Berna: "Oh, Yes! That reminds me... We need to pick up some Brie!"

The challenge continues: What will happen to Berna and her money?
Will the funds flee faster than a Bernie Madoff investment?
Will Berna throw the Morgans a couple of bucks so they can heat their kitchen?
Will Berna and Dexter ever really get lucky?

Time will tell... lots of time...

Dexter expresses concern over Berna just putting her $6M->$1.5M ticket in her purse. If my wife did that, we'd never see it again. Also, I'm wondering if there might be a purse snatcher passing through town. Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

Well, it's the end of another year (just under 3 days in CST). Wilson & Nolan are weaving yet another thread into the Rex Morgan, M.D. story rug. Berna's concerns about Dex spending their ill-gotten windfall turn out to be valid, as he's down at Consumer World, buying a Jumbo-Rama 3000 HDTV. He persuaded the red-headed teen salesman (Red-headed? Could it be? Nah.) to open early so he could get going on frittering away his $1.5M half. I feel a foreboding that we're all going to be taught some lessons about what to do, or not do, when we win the lottery.

It's been 6 months and right on schedule, the story took place in 2.5 days of Rex Morgan time.
Here's the executive summary:
Berna won the lottery and says she will give half to her brother Dex who, while exhibiting early signs of dementia, bought a bass boat and got scammed but was rescued by Rex, while Berna asked Rex to keep the ticket in the office for safekeeping the local safe-cracker came but was caught and Berna decided to quit and Dex decided to give the Bass Boat to Rex.

Final summary and wrap up:
In 2.5 days, Rex did not see a single patient.
Even with the promise of half a million dollars poor Dex didn't get any action and will no doubt leave this world with an untested, full prostate.
Rex and June scammed a dementia addled senior citizen out of a $35,000 boat. I hope they enjoy it.

Fortuitously, a resume showed up today just as Berna announced she is leaving.
Based upon the current office staff I am betting the information contained in the resume will have absolutely no bearing on the hiring decision. We will know whether or not she will be hired within 4 seconds of her appearance at the job interview. If she's a 36D or above, she's in.

I call this thread: Out With The Old. In With The New.
