Here's how I treat a cold. I figure nutrition and sleep are important. Nutrition I can control. Sleeping is the problem. Dry mouth keeps me awake. So...
Three hours before bed I take a generic Mucinex for head and chest congestion. At one hour before bed I take a generic benadryl with a couple of crackers and water. I take a shower without the exhaust fan on and while in the steamy room I take ONE shot in ONE nostril of the generic medicated Afrin. - the kind that is addictive.
I shave, comb my hair, take care if other ablutions, use VED, floss, change and go to bed with a Scientific American.
By the time I hit the pillow, the one nostril is clear and I can sleep like a baby.
The Mucinex reduces the nasal spray rebound effect and I alternate nostrils on alternate days so I don't wear out the lining.
Total cost - about
15 cents. Priceless.
