Last night while lying in bed, our 14 pound cat jumped up onto the bed. He landed right on my incesion line. I'm only 6 days post op. and wondering if he damaged anything internally?

You might want to check with your Dr if you have any symptoms (pain/bleeding etc) but I had something very similar happen a week out and other than the shock and pain nothing happened.

Actually, I think that did happen to me.  Cats are perceptive and seem to know that something has happened, and want to check you out.

My wife and I also returned to babsysitting our 3-year-old twin grandchildren the day after I got home, and I survived that, too.  They were very good about avoiding Grandpa's "owies," but curious to see the incision.

I think  you'll be fine, but watch for any unusual symptoms.

Yeah, I doubt you could hurt a cat like that. Perhaps he had heard that they stitch people up with cat-gut. At least you don't have a larger pet!

What the jumper/lander may or may not have done to you however depends on how you reacted. I'd say it might have been worse for your heart and blood-pressure than for your incision, that was probably okay as six days on from surgery things will have healed quite a lot given that's about when many guys have their catheters removed.

And Gordy isn't it 9 lives.

Anxiety --- I'm sure you're fine, but as the others have said, let your doc know.

Gordy ---- I darn near became incontinent again laughing after reading your post. And, I see it's your 500th which makes you a Veteran Menber. What a post to transition on! Congratulations.

Alf --- It's nine lives if they haven't used up any. I imagine when the cat landed on Gordy he bellowed so loud the cat lost two instantly.

I was about 10 days out, and a neighbor's (very large) dog jumped up on me - I think the shock of being thrown across the room nearly killed him. I felt like his leg had made it all the way to my spine. But we both lived. Can't say as much for the stuff on the shelf he took out.

Sleepless- Thanks for noticing the landmark 500th and for the congrats. Due to a self-imposed ban several years ago (it's a long story) I wasn't supposed to accumulate that many posts. Oh well, another screw-up in my life.

After making a strange, geese-like sound after reading Gordy's response (don't often laugh out loud on HW, and generally rarely like a goose) , I have to add our own animal "ouch" story:

Husband's surgeon came into his hospital room to release him for home. One of his admonitions about the cath was to keep it securely attached, but to get up and walk as much as he could. To reinforce the warning he then told us of another patient who was discharged from the hospital to come home to his loving household of wife, kids, and golden retriever puppy. Said puppy leaped joyfully, immediately leaped on his owner when he came home and landed on the cath line. Both of us instantly lost 6 inches shrivelling in sympathy. Second question asked by both of us at the first post-op apptmt. was "How's the man with the retriever puppy?"

The cat is doing well. I hope he likes being locked in the back room with all hhis toys, food and litter. We are not on speaking terms at this point in time. He only has 7 lives left after the incident.

In my experience the cat comes off badly if its human sits on it when it's the cat that's had the surgery!!

I seem to recall when my Dad was recovering in hospital after his second coronary a cat used to come in from the garden and get on his bed. (can't quite remember what "Matron" made of it, what with him being a senior doc etc.) At home our cats always knew if we were ill and came to sit with us, on us, between us behind us under us etc. According to my Mum our cat also stayed on Dad's bed for days after dad died.

I'm also interested that since my surgery my neighbour's dog doesn't keep sniffing my crotch, despite the fact that it must smell a bit on occasions owing to my odd dribbles. Do you think the dog knew something was wrong down below before the uro did?
