Norm:
I for one, understand your point. In this type of arena, no single poster, no matter how clever they think they are - or how well read they are - or how skilled they are at googling info on the computer, can possibly replace the advice of real medical professinals. There are those here and there, that come across like they have special inside knowledge of someone's case, when in reality, they don't.
This is a patient to patient support site.
There are so many factors that go into a decision, and a person would have to know all the medical history and background of a patient, for starters, and know how to factor that in, with exisiting medical issues, medications being taken, even family medical history of other family members, to even begin to know how to properly advise.
When rank amateurs pretend to be professional, that is when I take off for the door running.
I also don't like the mind set of some, that tend to undermind sound medical advice a newcomer brings here. And I don't think it helps anyone here, to pull up anti-doctor and anti-medical advice sentiments, just because someone has a cross to bear.
Just remember - there are no doctors or specialists here, just PC guys and/or their other halves. And that is good, when kept in that context.
That's my take. Stick to the support mode, not the "doctoring" role.
