Thanks for the help. I see my urologist again on Tuesday -- with lots of questions, after the benefit of reading all the threads on this forum. Maybe I'll start posting aftet that as my family and I struglle to make a final decision on what I'm going to do. In the meantime, let me tell you that you all are amazing for your candor, comfort and support. They should start a forum just for daily living, even if you don't have a worrisome diagnosis to deal with! Thanks again.

Hello-

 I had a TURP August 6, 2006 and only 3 weeks later a second one to revise the first-- then believe it or not TURP 3 December 8, 2006. From the first time I was sexually active after TURP one I have NEVER had a significant orgasm. I had expected RETROGRADE EJACULATION and had already experienced it because of the drug FLOMAX but the sensation of orgasm was not significantly changed. After TURP, if what I had before was a "10" sensation wise-- now at best it is only about a 2 or a 3 if that. This was NEVER explained to me as a possibility and my urologist said of sex, "It will feel the same"-- nothing could be further fromt the truth in my case. I was only 56 when this happned to me and not what I expected for the next 20 or so years. If I had it to do over again, I'd take what I had before TURP when an orgasm was really an orgasm! 

 

Before agreeing to a TURP know that this could happen to YOU.

Pete,

I'm interested in learning more about your hormone replacement. I had my RP in May '06 and in general my profile sounds similar to yours. The doctors at Mayo (JAX) are not willing to discuss testosterone or thyroid treatment at this time. I have not problems with incontinence, however, the ED problems and depression are overwhelming at times.

I had a nerve sparing operation about 5 years ago. Was contained and PSA is still zero.

I had erections directly after the operation but as time went on, the nerves died and erections went to near zero. It took 6 months (nerves grow at about an inch per month) until lopsided erections started to occur with the base of the penis thick and the tip thin. It got better so that now it is mostly OK and erections are nearly normal. If there is a difficulty it is with aging alone. Viagra helps. I have had up to 3 orgasms in a 24 hour period recently, at age 70.

The first orgasms were oddly empty with the prostate ejaculation gone. As time has gone on the orgasms have vastly exceeded the pre-operation experience. They do last longer and are manifestly more mind-blowing. Pete has nailed it.

I am using testosterone cream. My urologist has worked with the local pharmacist to make a local formulation for testosterone cream. Shower every day, use a brush to clean the skin, use a thin layer diluted with water to make a uniform layer over as much skin as is available.

Since my surgery on January 5, 2010, sex has been the last thing on my mind until this week. It took me a month to really get the continence issue out of the way. Got my vacuum pump and tried it last week a few times. Then 2 nights ago, I tried a little self-stimulation and had my first post-surgery orgasm. It was great relief to know that the equipment still worked. Last night I tried again, with even better results....the orgasm was strong and long, the penis still soft but a little bigger than the night before. Very strange feeling, though, it feels like you're ejaculating, but nothing comes out. I know I may have to wait a few more months for erections to return, but I have high hopes.

 well guys after reading all your posts i guess there is still hope. my rp was on sept. 13, 2010. as of yet no erection. have had a few orgasms by manual stimulation, but the intensity was so small that it is hardly worth the effort. hope things get better. confused

I have orgasms, there are different but still good.
I use VED so I found type of pressure when rings put on and type of rings (too tight) can delay or make it harder to have orgasm.
A little less suction and let less presssure I get the big "O"
My erection may not be as hard but probably at 60 (in 3 wks) - it would not be as hard as it was when 16yr.
Most of us probably try to gage what we have versus if we did not have RP would be in same boat as we are now.

Honestly I cannot complain. 7 weeks out of surgery I have had not so strong orgasms but I have also had orgasms that were far more intense than anything I ever had before. We I described these to my wife she said that I come like a woman now. That may be funny/cute, but there is an ignorant macho side of me that feels like less of a "man" for coming like a woman. I know, it's stupid, just pointing out that much of this topic is a result of what is in our mind, our preconceptions and perspective.

Also, I found that the more intimate I am, the more intense the orgasm. Specifically, if it's the perfect mood, time etc, the orgasm lasts longer than it did before and it comes in waves.

I have no complaints.

Ten weeks out and nothing! It's a bit discouraging, but beats the alternative in the absence of RRP. Am hoping things improve with time, though wife is quite happy with VED erection. This forum has sure helped.

I have had orgasms since surgery and SRT, but they are nothing like what they were before. I also don't really get any sort of "dry ejaculation" twitching sensations. Thus in the last eighteen months I have had maybe 2 or 3 recognisable orgasms. Mostly the climax and all pleasurable feelings in little Alf simply disappear at the exact moment I think I've got there. And worse still is the fact that I then usually get a deep ache inside me in the area where the prostate used to be, sometimes there is also an ache in my penis too. After such non-orgasms my penis weirdly then becomes larger and harder. perhaps 10% more than my erection was before surgery!
I have only managed 1 orgasm with my wife in all this time, which is a bit disheartening. The position we choose for sex seems to have a big bearing on what I feel. Kneeling or standing doesn't really work at all, if I lie of my back I get what I would describe as a very long run up but no jump. If I'm on top then I get tired before getting very far (that may still be a legacy of the tiredness from RT though) best results occur if I am sitting. I mentioned this variation in performance to the doc and he suggested it could just be to do with what my muscles are now doing and able to do.

I believe the key is to not stop trying to get better at it.

That's pretty wild, Alf.

I hear you on the thinking too much aspect of it. Sex after prostate cancer is like being a teenager all over again. So much pressure and discovery. In some ways that, along with the need to be more creative can be fun.

My wife is still squeamish about trying to have sex. She is afraid of leakage during oral sex, and I can't blame her. And I don't have any kind of erection to try intercourse. Thank goodness for baby oil and internet p**n!

I am unable to have orgasm, or at the very best, I have some form of an orgasm but it is as though it is disconnected from my brain, so the cravings remain and it is essentially total frustration.

Does anyone know of nerve/neural pathway therapies?

I saw that a Clinical Trial is underway in Israel using Electric Therapy for ED but don't know if that also applies to reconnection with the brain for the pleasure/senses.

Recently I am noticing a slight "plumping" after the "orgasmic" like (but nothing like an orgasm) contraction response, with an ache as others have described in my pelvis/testicles, but pleasure does not exist. It is unlike any insatiable craving I have ever endured. I imagine it would be like being a drug addict in prison.

My doc suggested I would need to be aggressive with rehab and honestly it was fine with me, I' like playing with the fellow anyway. smilewinkgrin

One month after surgery I had pretty good orgasms, no erection but strong none the less and no pain. I then bought a VED and with the wife they were pretty good although I think I need more stimulation than before so our foreplay can go on for 30 min. Intercourse is fantastic and now with the bi-mix injections I can continue long after orgasm which has occasionally become a problem as my wife typically comes first. I'm not sure as I have just started on the injections but, I think they may affect sensation a bit, diminishing my orgasm. Although that may be that my wife is just getting used to the fact woody is back on duty.

Tuesday, June 21st was a good day for me. I finally stopped wearing a pad, as I am confident that I am now totally continent. I had been reluctant to stop using them, even though I hadn't leaked at all in the last couple of weeks.
Also, I had my first really firm erection since my surgery (almost as firm as the ones I remember from before the surgery). I have been taking 50mg. of viagra every other day for the past 3 months, and using the VED. I have been able to achieve orgasm every time, but the erections were too soft for intercourse. This is a real improvement, and very encouraging, as I had anticipated having to wait up to a year for a strong erection. Things are looking up, so to speak.

I don't always understand why I have been hanging arounjd this forum for five years.

When I see one of these old (2007) posts that seem to have legs, I have the urge to share with others.

After almost 5 years I am still trying to get the sexual thing together.  My erections are all the result of bimix injections.  My orgasms are still short and not exciting enough, but I still Enjoy sex on a regular basis and think about it all of the time.  Fortunatly I have a willing partner.  I hope to continue having sex as long as I live....a noble goal.  cool

I think my first one was a week or 2 after catheter removal. I have no trouble having them, but I have no nerves, no pump, no erection, nothing. If anything it appears to me that my penis shrinks even more the moment before the orgasm, not that there's much shrinking room left! They feel almost the same as before surgery, but not quite.
