Split stream when i urinate

Hi guys,

I hope someone has a suggestion or an answer to this.

When i stand up to urinate my stream is split into two and it is an educated guess where it goes, if i am lucky both streams hit the bowl otherwise i hit the edge of the bowl or worse still one of them misses and then i have to clean the bathroom floor. The only time it has happened to me prior to surgery was if i urinated with an erection or as it subsided.

I obviously know i can sit down to pee but then my bladder does not empty properly and i still have to stand to get rid of the last bit. This is so annoying as it only happened rarely before and at the moment it seems to be doing it most of the times i go to the bathroom.

I have been having a split stream while peeing for years (noted as a having a wide urethra) - and internal scar tissue prior to my RP.
Your split stream may be due to your surgery - the movement of the bladder and reconnecting to the urethra....
I would relax and let things continue to heal up - it has only been two weeks - but do make your doctor aware of your situation.
I would expect that in time - with your post-op penile rehabilitation in hand - your split stream may decrease in occurrence.

This started for me immediately after DaVinci - surgeon says it is scar tissue from the urethra re-connection.

He tells me to raise a flag if it worsens, but in general it is part of the "new normal". Really ugly if you pee in the pot and on the ceiling at the same time, but the "new normal" has a few flaws.

More clarity on this, when my bladder is full it comes out in 1 forceful stream, stronger than pre-surgery. If my bladder is only part full then its a split stream or spray.

I experienced the very same phenomena ~5-6 weeks post surgery. As you mentioned, there is considerable angst in trying to control two streams, each with their own misguided sense of direction.



I am now about 10 weeks post surgery and, until your post, didn't realize that this hardly occurs now. Hopefully yours will also improve with time.

Well i too am 5 to 6 weeks post op and just like you, first thing in the morning it is a solid heavy stream like when i was younger, it is through the day that the split stream starts, just glad the bathroom does not have carpet on the floor

Welcome to Healing Well.

I have the scatter shot pattern too and it is difficult to control the random drips and squirts. I pee into a 16 oz cup that I use to measure my output. It is like killing three birds with one stone: I don't have to worry about aiming, I get to measure my pee, and I save water by pouring it down the sink (Don't tell my wife) and washing the cup.

I could make it 4 birds with one stone if I left the full pee cup on the counter and let the 18 BTUs of latent heat warm the room air. But then I'm pretty sure one of the stones I saved would be thrown at me by my wife. So in the interest of preserving my marriage, I reluctantly pour the 18 BTUs down the sink. I hope the US Department of Energy does not find out.

Guys I noticed awhile ago that this problem was attributed in my case to dehydration. The more liquids I drink, the less this is a problem.

I also noticed it is easy to get in the habit of not waiting long enough to pee. less flow equals split stream.

I sit unless there is a urinal was doing it before surgery stream was weak and aim wasn't good. If I could attach a scope to peter I might try standing again.

So that old wives tale about finding a penny heads up being good luck might be true after all!

Has anyone had this experience? Urinating while sitting is far easier than standing. I thought that was implied by Ger42's comment. I pee standing but if I am sitting for a BM after I urinate sitting I tend to keep squirting a bit here and there as I finish up my business. That body position seems to make me loose all urinary control. When I stand it is much better in terms of control.
Anatomy is complicated!???

Is this true for others as well?

Same experience for me. I think it involves relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles to facilitate the BM, thereby removing control over the urine flow.

At least you are a witness. You know he is trying. I actually had part of my stream shoot behind me! My wife couldn't imagine how it was possible. You have to see it to believe it.

For all other women lurkers out there wondering how the heck he managed to spray the seat cover and the floor... We're trying! Believe me, we're trying!

I read somewhere, it could have been here, that the pee stream is twisted by the penis to make the urine spin making the flow be a solid stem.

An evolution thing I guess. The cavemen that didn't form a stream probably pissed on their feet, then got ate by dinosaurs that tracked the pee smell on the poor guys feet. Well, it could be true.

PROSTATE VS NEUROGENIC BLADDER VS PSYCHOLOGICAL: I have a 60-year-old gent renting a room and sharing our bathroom. I noticed he smelled sometimes of urine, then grabbed his groin area, and splatters on bathroom floor. He uses the bathroom many times a night. He also has insulin in his room. We spoke to him about "aiming", but the past two mornings, there has been a river on the floor next to the toilet. Since we have a cat, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But after reading here, I am convinced he has some issues. The puddles were not splashes, but rivers along the tiled wall, two feet away! Is this some sort of psychological thing? Or a combination of psychological/pathology? He is meticulous in his appearance. But I am going to hand him the mop tomorrow. He needs a private bidet in his room. Please email me some advice anybody. I liked the previous posting of using a jar--I could get one from a hospital, perhaps...
