Hi. I (61 years) did my first posting in December and mentioned my annual psa had risen from a consistent 2 - 2.5 over the past 6 years to 13 in December and 18 in January after 4 weeks of antibiotics for possible prostitis. The DRE three weeks ago was negative and the perineal prostate biopsy (14 needles, 24 samples) on Wednesday was all negative with 'only occasional cores containing a mild patchy chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate'. The surgeon has asked I monitor my psa every 4 months for the next year and get back to him after 12 months if it remains high.
All in all an interesting experience. I would like to acknowledge the help I have received from this site which has
opened my eyes to the tough journey many of you face with still so much uncertainty around best treatments etc. As a result of postings here I read Walsh's book as well as the prostate snatcher's one and found both very helpful. Can I also say that I am glad I had a perineal biopsy (compared with transrectal) as there is less chance of infection and possible side effects to the bowel - this was important for me as I have spent two years with significant bowel problems which only recently after three lots of surgery have been sorted out.
Again, thanks heaps.

sobeit, you have been on quite a ride for sure, but i am glad that you are still negative on the PC part. Hope you stay that way. Please keep us posted, and the other PSA tests are a good idea at this point, to be on the safe side.
