I just got my first PSA taken 3 months after my prostate removal. I had one spot that was rated Gleason 3+3=6 with a tertiary of 4. All other patholgy was negative. I hate this and hope I can get a break from being tested.

A out of the Roof:
-wishing you all the best for a good result... am warming up a zero club chair for you (PSA<0.10 - there is no such thing as an absolute zero)

- keep in mind, each doctor has their own routine for post-op tests - depending on the numbers and pathology report - 3 months - then graduate to 6 months and then yearly and ...
-in Canada, we generally have to wait 2-3 weeks to get the PSA results - they are currently working on making it faster -

- write down the numbers they tell you - remember "less than" if stated - and where the zero's and dots are... ie. 0.05 is not the same as 0.50 or 0.005... and read it back to them - they can read the numbers wrong... and it is easy to get befuddled in a stressful situation...

- we have had posters here on HW panicking due to receptionist/nurse error...

Anxiety.
I had my PSA tested every 3 months for the first year. If the result is undetectable, you will get tested every six months and for another year or two and then once a year if your still in the zero club.

and call and bug them. doctors sometimes lose track of how anxious we are for those results.

If you haven't already inquired, you should ask how quickly you can get the results. There's nothing more frustrating and scary than that first wait. Here in British Columbia, the results are online for the patient 24 hours after the blood is taken. (Tattman, take note! BC is not Ontario!) My uro, however, doesn't call for 3 or 4 days, and by then, I've moved on (because all the results thus far are less than.01, 11 months test yesterday). I wish you the best of luck and agree the zero club is about to welcome a new member!

I always want to get an actual copy of the results for my own file; they will fax it to you on request. that is extra protection against someone misreading a report and dropping a decimal point.

That said, with a gleason 3+3+4 and clean pathology the odds of having anything bad show up are *extremely* low, maybe even less than 1%

Bronson, I am amazed how they claim to be the first in Canada to provide 72 hour results, when here in BC they're available in 24 hours! But then again, I amazed at some of the claims uro's make as well! As for your Zero Club jpeg, I would love to have that as a bumper sticker!

Here in Thailand you have your blood taken 2hrs before you see the doctor and he gives you your PSA result all done normally by 9.30 am

Before I leave the doctor's office I make sure my blood test request form has my name in the second "cc" box. The first "cc" box has my primary care physician's name. The complete report is mailed to me about two days after the test. I keep a copy of the records in my own file - and plot it on my spread sheet, of course.

Hey fertree, I like the idea of having results online for the patient. Very efficient.

Actually, a friend of mine is a physician in town. I always include him on the list of doctors to get the report. I email him when I want the results and he emails it to me. He then has his office mail me an official copy.

I have it just about that good here in Illinois. I go at lunch time to the Copley Hospital out-patient center and have my blood drawn.
Then on the way home I stop by there again and ask for the results. They give me a computer printout of the results.
All I had to do was ask my doctor if I could have it done at the hospital out-patient center.
