Shock wearing OFF

Well group.  I started here about two weeks ago and I found a lot of support from EVERYBODY. I want to thank you all.......

Well, I just had a second opinion on my biopsy.. 12 cores  11 negative  1 positive with 5% cancer... That was 2% better then the original report. I figured if I get 2 more opinions I will have 0% cancer......  Think this will work???? LOL.

I am doing my research and reading. I have read two books on PC..... I don't think I read that many books in four years of college... LOL 

I talked with my urologist and he is setting up a medical conference with 3 doctors, surgeon, radiologist/oncologist, and a wait and see doctor..... I know that is not the proper labels for these doctors but hey  I still have my sense of humor... I think....

I am hoping that this meeting goes well so I can make a decision on my procedure..

I will be getting my stats on a signature soon but here there are.

I would love to hear from anybody who is doing the wait and see approach.. I understand there is a lot of monitoring to do... PSA test every 6 months..... Biopsy every year  etc.....

I expect to get flamed by the AS and radiation advocates.....but here goes.

Several facts to consider. The younger you are, the faster you will recuperate from surgery, with the great likelihood that you will suffer fewer post-op issues (ED and incontinence).

As well, about 40% of the biopsies performed understate the actual extent of the tumor. The only exact biopsy comes when they have the whole thing sliced up on a petri dish.

I know I probably could have waited a few more years for my op, but am glad I forged ahead. 7 weeks post-op, I feel fine. I am also now a proud new member in the ZERO club!

bluefin, the good news is the world of treatments is your oyster, (just to keep up the oceanic metaphor for you.) The bad news is the world of treatments is your oyster. And all are likely valid choices. Doctors will be fighting to get their hands on you. You'll make their stats look good! A lot of good choices makes it complicated when there are no clear right answers.

My decision to have surgery was driven in a large part by my head space make-up. I wanted the rotter sucker OUT and I wanted to know what the pathology was. I came to understand that other valid treatments weren't for me.

I suspect when you've met with all these doctors and have listened to all the advice you'll get here, from your barber, and your cousin's third cousin who just happens to know a guy who was "cured" by smearing his chest with hot Yak poop, in the end it will come down to your head space --- that which you're most comfortable living with.

As for 'comfortable living with' let me warn you about the hot Yak poop program. A) it can really mess up your micowave if you accidently overheat it, and B) your wife may learn to live with the stench, but I guarantee you she'll not be happy about the laundry issue. However, I do acknowledge the two year survival rate for hot Yak poop treatments is as good as any other treatment, and one of the best when it comes to incontinence. I'll let others comment on the ED issues which are somewhat unique.

Sheldon is right...after all the due diligence is done, your head space is going to make the right call for you.

Joe,my theory is true.I have a checkered past and I figure those are 2 of the reasons I'm alive today. That and the love of a good woman,who changed my life
Plus I have to wait for Grand kids to show up,so I'm in no hurry
