Hi All,   It seems when I get in a troubled place I can write in this forum! Since I am the wife of someone with Pca I don’t feel like I have much to offer here and feel selfish always asking for advice or answers to questions, but I feel you guys have more information than the doctors at times. I just hate this disease and wish it had never arrived in our life but it did!! We saw the Radiation Oncologist yesterday and he still just wants to watch the PSA before he calls it “failed”. There have been 2 consecutive rises in the PSA post SRT it went from 0.04 to 0.09 and then to 0.11, I thought that was considered failure? I sometimes feel that some of the doctors get there egos involved in the treatment and not sure but maybe take it personally that it was failed treatment before letting the patient move on to the next modality.   I know this is for the most part a slow growing cancer and there is time for choices but I know radiation isn’t going to be the next choice. Then we get into what Medical Oncologist should he see? Should he stay at City of Hope? Should he go see Dr. Scholz in Marina Del Rey? Should we fly somewhere? Should he start HT? Should he wait for HT? I guess the scary part now is there is no cure it’s just palliative care and quality versus quantity of life. I really want to thank all of you!! I am going through the same situation. (DaVinci, IGRT; <0.01 06/10, 0.02 10/10, 0.096 04/11

I have been advised, outside of my uro's practice. to find a good medical oncologist (am in process with that).

My Uro considers failure to mean three consecutive increases (over .1), so for him I am not there yet.

Others will say that you have to get to 0.2.

I expect my next offered option will be HT. Not a pleasant thought.

Can't help with names on the west coast, but you are not alone in this stage.

FIRST, find the medical oncologist. Then that person can advise on the next tx.

I'm not sure SRT has failed. It's still a grey area.

I will probably see Dr. Scholz. I will have to fly out from Michigan.

I am completing SRT, so I am a few months behind you.

I also am in the same boat.

My surgery failed within 9 months, and now my SRT has failed in about the same time period. After my 2nd consecutive rise, it was declared a failure, and now I have a 3 and huge spike, and about to get a 4th reading, which will probably even be higher.

i am off to a new cancer clinic and a new medical oncologist for advisement.

with SRT, the general rule is that there shouldn't be any increases at all.

As a wife of a guy with PC I totaly understand how you are feeling.We are also in the waiting game his next pas test is in June.All I can say is hang in there,and as you know there are a lot of the guys and gal's to help you along with support and advise here.Be Strong but do'nt forget to take care of your self

Wives have it the Toughest!
I'm at a point I don't want her to know any results but she seems to know before I do.
its a real Peculiar type of disease I've had acquaintances unfortunately that were diagnosed and gone within a year with other "C"s as Dr. Scholz has reminded me of late! we have a cancer that even if persistent can be lived with for many years with many different types of therapy. So you hang in there a cure is around the corner and I for one will be standing there waiting! ? wait with me why doncha ( :

Thanks for all the encouraging words and thoughts!! We go tomorrow to see the Medical Oncoligist It is so hard to be on this side of Pca! I have to leave the choices of treatment to him and support what ever that is...  I for one am all about spreading the word of more awareness of "Prostate Cancer" I am amazed at how little people know about Pca or men checking their PSA. I am a flight attendant and wear my blue ribbon on my uniform and always get asked what it stands for!!
