post op PSA ?

Husband went to the urologist yesturday after 6 weeks RP. His PSA came back " undetectable" .  When I asked the dr, if there was a number . ex .02 , .01, or something like that. He said there was none, undetectable. Is that correct, or should there be a number also? The other question is he said he wanted to see him in 4 months. But he was not going to take another PSA for a year. I thought I read / heard somewhere, this was to be checked frequently for the first year. If all go then go to annual. Maybe I read/ heard that wrong. Super Super happy with the news, just want to make sure he is doing the right thing going forward.

"Undetectable" can be written 0.00, 0.0, <0.01, <0.1 It's all undetectable.

Generally, PSA tests are performed at least every 6 months, and in "high-risk" cases every 4 months after treatment.

If your husbands pathology after surgery showed him to be very low risk, then maybe going a year would be okay. You can ask your GP to do a PSA test any time you want....

Not sure what the standard is(or if there is one) but I thought testing every 3 months after RRP for the first year then every 6 months was the norm.

BTW, my reading is basically undetectable too but since there is always a measure of tolerance either way it comes back from the lab at <0.01, my doc says that's zero. Congratulations, a new member of the Zero Club!

Undetectable means that it is below the lowest value that the testing instrument can detect, for example, < 0.1, <0.05, <0.01, etc.

For almost all intents and purposes, anything less than 0.1 ng/mL is considered zero.

I had my PSA tested at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, then yearly after that.  

Congratulations on the zero! My doctor has me taking PSA's every 3 months. He said that would be for the first two years then every 6 months after that.
