I had my 2 year PSA drawn on Thursday, 5 days ago. I have my two year appointment with my Uro in 2 weeks, but I already know my results. Why?
Because I insisted that the requesting doctor put my name and "(pt)" in the second cc box on the request form. Today, I received, in the mail, the full report "Total PSA, protocol (eff 4-2010), performed by Roche Cobas 601 electrochemiluminescence ECLIA."
Additionally, my GP has Web-enabled our medical records through the
Eclincalweb Patient Portal. I put in my user name and password and all my records are available to me, including all my PSA results - even the ones where I was a study participant.
Guys, Instead of suffering mental anguish every 6 months waiting for your PSA result, wasting time driving to the office, or calling and worrying about
whether or not the receptionist knows the difference between <, =, or >, insist that your doctor "Get with the program". It is 2011! It's time to move out of the stone age. Ask if the office is Web Enabled. If enough people ask for it, it will happen. W.E. saves money, time, and needless worry. If your doc's office is not current with this technology can you be certain they are current in anything?
If for some reason they don't have the capability then ABSOLUTELY insist on having the report sent to your home.
Oh, by the way, it was <0.01 ng/mL. Drinks all around.
Jeff
Heck, Even Rex Morgan will be moving to web-enabled records soon.
