HI, i recently received the news, my father has cancer and i am already in a depressive mood and a frustrated state, not knowing what to do , how to do it, and worry about knowledge, decisions, and about time.
My father is the most important figure in my life, is my mentor, my support, my friend, my teacher, my psicologyst, my doctor, my mirror, my example..... my FATHER and the best one.
I am having problems facing the news, i am pregnant with his second grand child , with some difficulties to sleep at night, reading everything that i can, not resting enough, not finding comfort. but me isnot the problem
I want to know, from others like my father with cancer, what makes you feel better, what helps them in their depresions, how a daughter can support her father, how not to make them feel worse, how to be a support, how to make a difference, how to help in decisions...
please... help me help him
my father is a 60 yrs old man
who eats healthy and do exercise daily
he looks younger than his age
he was feeling some pail in his rectal area then a blood test then high psa then a biopsia then gleason 8 then a gamagrama ... end up metastasis.
he is taking some hormonteraphy to control and avoind the expansion.
3 oncologist recomended radioteraphy after he was facing some back pain...
can that help?
and to reduce the cancer cells they introduce to him the option of cryotheraphy...
I am living in canada with my canadian husband
i am mexican
so as my father...
i will move back to mexico city to be by his side... every second... every minute ... every moment...
but i want to know how...
for it not to affect him.

I send my prayers to all of you
that as my father are facing this enemy

sorry you had the need to find us, but its a great place for both information and support.

it would help if you could supply any of your father's data from his biopsy, etc. When was he diagnosed, his PSA at the time, his Gleason score, staging if any, and how many positive cores were found in his biopsy.

sounds like his treatment has already started.

my neighbor is being treated in the same order and manner as your father.

good luck to both of you, and never give up hope. please keep us posted, and feel free to ask any and all questions that come to mind.

For now the only things that i know are this
he got diagnosed a month ago
PSA > 20, Gleason score ≥ 8
he started with hormontheraphy and his psa was tested a week ago and was at 4
they will test on monday expecting a ZERO! so lets hope it happens
How many positives in the biopsy i do not know i just know that gleason scored 8
and then they made a gamagram
and they detected metastic prostate cancer
...
they proposed the radioteraphy
and cryopteraphy...
not decided what to do yet...
i am going to move back to mexico with him the 4th of august
so i will update the information when i get there and i will have acces to .

HOPE!!! yes!!!

Unfortunately, the issue is that your Father's PC has already spread (metastasis) and so the doctors need to control them as well as the PC itself..

I suspect that this is irrelevant information as we already have Mets. and hence the treatment options are significantly different to the majority of men who only have to deal with Prostate Confined PC itself.
In this case, I suspect that I would be placing my trust in an experienced Uro/Oncologist.

The reality is that few men are exactly the same in the way that they respond to different treatments, especially when it becomes as complicated as having developed Mets..
No one should be suggesting that the position is good, but when there is life, there is hope, and prayer will definitely not hurt..

As I understand it , the Hormone Treatment will likely stabilise the Prostate Cancer, but I think that they need to treat the Mets. and then take care of the PC itself..

We will be thinking and praying..

PS - Just a thought.. If MY daughter came racing home to look after me, I would likely find it a bother, but I do not know your dad's circumstances..
From your description of Dad, I would think that he was a strong man, who would cope with things.
YOU also have to think about the expected one.. but having said that, will it be more of a strain on you in not being there.. Not knowing.. Not helping ???
Ask Dad if you can help, and be guided by him ?

I am dedicating my prayers to persons facing illness and difficulties to face circumstances, my father included...
about your tought...
My father and I are quite close... and YES he did not want me to know...
i found out by myself and just by accident. . .
Fortunatelly i planned to move to mexico before i found out about his PC
i want my little one to born there
so i hope that helps my father not to feel so bothered
i join this site because of that . . i do not want not to be there but i do not want to be there making him feel worse
He is a Very strong man
he is a healthy person in his diet habits and life
and we as a family are quite close
i had a car accident a few years back, i had to be in the hospital for a while and my father was working abroad...
he ask at work to put him back in mexico and that was not possible at that time
so he apply for other options and end up with me
My mother is an incledible woman that is there and i have a brother that is taking him to recomended and well known
urologist and oncologist for my father to consider all his options and find consistance in what they recomend for his situation.
How long since you got diagnosed?
what was recomended for your metastasis?
and how they treat your PC?

The treatment that your father is receiving is what others in the same situation normally get. The hormone therapy deprives the PCa from its food and can control his PSA for years and in some case many years. The radiation to the mets help in reducing the pain associated with bone mets. Having a good oncologist with PCa experience is very important. Good luck.

Bone mets... i still do not know the exact results of my father scan
but i know that is starting with some back pain and they are giving him some analgesics
i am getting some ups and downs
one day i think that i need to be prepared for my father death
some others that maybe there is something to do
some times i think that i cannot have false hopes
sometimes i think that i need to beleive that there is not the end
that i am nto goign to lose him in a copuple of months...
i am having some depression episodes that i need to control before i go with my father
i am doing my research and getting some information that can help me to understand this more.
bone metastasis can be controled?
or just reduce the pain with the radiation teraphy?

Hi Roxetta,
From what you have posted it seems that your Dad is getting systemic treatment for disease that was diagnosed after escaping the prostate gland. You ask about DaVinci surgery and HIFU. Those two are localized treatments that apply to cancer localized in the prostate. In your father's case they might not apply.

One important issue for you to find out is how many metastatic lesions your father has. This is important because response to androgen deprivation is related to the number of lesions present.

i will be with my father soon so i will get his exam results information with me
i do appreciate all the supports and reply that i am getting
i order a couple of books to be more knowledgeable of this disease
i am trying to get second third fourth and so on opinions to be there with my father
and get him know that he is not alone

inshallah ... god willing.... my father stay with us muchos a;os... lots of years more....

Does anyone tried acuppunture or ****su or other complementary medicine for pain?
my father is having some back pain and he is taking some analgesics but i am not sure of the side effects
so i am trying to take a diploma or course in massage or accupunture or ****su or reiki.. or something that can help to release his pain besides the prescribed medicine .

I had the DeVinci surgery. It is the name given to the robotic devise with which the doctor performs the surgery. Typically we refer to it as robotic assisted surgery.
