OK, it's my turn to visit a very expensive plumber!! I did not find out which method (RPP - radical perineal prostatectomy or RRP - radical retropubic prostatectomy) until my last consult. Turns out he is "darn good" at RRP. Initially, I was prepared to give up both nerve bundles, but he convinced me that he would try to save my left side with the understanding, that any sign of PCa, it needs to go also. My prioritys were cure, continence, sex in that order. I can understand others that might have a different order, but these are mine. Admittedly, 5 years ago mine might have been different.

Anywho, I am actually looking forward to getting this over and peeing like a kid again. I am also very much looking forward to joining that drinking bunch we all know as the zero club.

Thank you all for being here to help me get to this day with knowledge and comfort. And thinking of those who have had tougher days than I. Got a lot to do today, so I'll catch you on the other side.

hi, star, wishing you all the best: hate that anyone has to go thru this, but you're at the point that you need to just need to grit your teeth and go do it...not one of the fun times of life, but you get thru it and go on with life, figuring that you've added a few years by going thru the process...hopefully the experience isn't as bad as the anticipation...

Wishing you the very best with your surgery, Startech!  Your priorities are the same as my husband's.  We're still working on that last one.  Every case is different.  Do something fun today!  We'll see you on the other side!

Good luck tomorrow startech, may God help guide your surgeons hands. I think your priorities are the same as most PCa men in this forum. After being cured most of us just want to be dry and for me the ED wasn't as critical as long as I am dry. However my loving wife who told me back in May before surgery that she could live without sex as long as I was around for the next 20 years is secretly hoping my TRIMIX injections starting today will do the trick.

Keeping you in thoughts and prayers. I'm a week out from the cath removal and every day is better.

Being on the other side is a relief in itself that something has finally been done and you can start on a path forward rather than in a holding pattern of wondering and anxiety.

Looking for a drinking buddy to go to the Zero Club.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow and my thoughts will be with you. It is great to be on the other side. Just four days out from my surgery on Aug 1st I'm feeling remarkably well. Relax and enjoy today for tomorrow you will be on the other side and waiting for the path report.

I will save you a seat at the Zero Club bar.

Lets hope your result will be in the order of your prioritys and the number three is good. Or at least number one and then two and three can be fiddled with later! It is great that you have surgeon that you are happy with and put your trust with. I hope to read your report on this board, soon, that all is well.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Just finishing up some packing and getting ready to hit the sack as I am waking at 3:30 a.m. Should be out of recovery around noon. I am not taking my computer, so I will check back in with the forum once I return home and report then. Everyone make the best of your weekend and I WILL see you on the other side.

Hello, I made it! I came home today and am a little soar. The Dr. said everything went fine and just as expected. He did leave the left nerve bundle. He also said he feels that the reason my psa was so high, was due to the size of my tennis ball - prostate. I am having a little pain sitting and standing and the catheter is a little tender. But I am sure as time goes on, it will get better. Everyone at the Hospital was very nice and kind. They were all amazed that my ex-wife was taking care of me...Actually some disbelief, LOL!!! But I am glad I decided to come back to San Antonio to have this done. The hospital staff continually praised my choice of surgeons. They all respect and like him, as he is very personable. And he certainly has great credentials and experience. He is not only a surgeon, but a Professor and a retired Colonel.

I have not really had time to catch up on the threads, just wanted to check in real quick and thank you all again for your support and concern.

BTW, love my new bucket!

A tennis ball? Did you know that going into surgery? I'm glad you came through fine and I love your attitude!

Glad you got such a good surgeon. Everyone here will tell you how important that is. I was watching a video of a doctor attaching the urethra to the bladder robotically...it was a slow day in recovery :)... and it's looked quite difficult to me. Not that you would want me for your surgeon! But, it made me realize the complexity of the operation and I can see where the doctors training, skill, and the volume of operations he has performed can effect the success of the operation.
