M D Anderson bound

So, after 2 weeks on the phone, I finally got an appointment with M D Anderson in Houston. I was starting to get a little fustrated that it took 2 weeks to just get an appointment. No excuses or apologies, they are just that busy. Anyways, just got the call and I am scheduled for a consult with a Dr. on 6/30/11. At first they told me July 11 and that really bothered me. But I am happy with 6/30 and the Dr. I was assigned. I did some internet "stalking" and among other findings, this quote is what really made me happy;" Dr. J. W. believes that it is important to limit the side effects of cancer treatments while meeting the primary goal of curing the cancer."

So, right now I am getting the motor home ready for the short trip (300 miles) and trying to book a spot in my desired RV Park. They want me available for up to one week in case the Dr wants to do some more testing, but I will probably go ahead a book a month since I really dont need to be back here. I also need to find a trailer to tow my car. I never got a chance to get my colonoscopy and think I may make some calls to look in to it further. I was kinda on hold until I got an answer back from MD Anderson. But at the same time, I dont want to jeapordize any further testing the Dr may want to do. I dunno.

good luck on that venture. sounds like you are making an adventure out of it at the same time. my new oncologist is affiliated with md anderson as well, and i have good vibes with him. please keep us well posted of what you learn

Report how the doctor is you see.  I had a second opinion there with a Dr.  Petteway.  I ended up going with a doctor associated with Methodist Hospital in Houston.

They may be hard to get an appt with but they are a first class outfit. My wife has been a patient of theirs since her diagnosis November 2005.

Its a little further for you, but it may be worth it. You may want to get started now if you decide to make the trip, cause of the time it takes to get an appt.

Hey Startech - thanks for pointing me this way! So MD Anderson, sounds like proton? I'm working on a consult at Loma Linda, meanwhile got the authorization for the CT scan, so should have a date for that on Monday.

Proton or other options. Just want to weigh them all prior to the final decision. You meant bone scan, right? So yeah, glad to hear you are gettin her done.

Will do Rob. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. I had a bad experience with my uro here. Maybe more on that later.

I was just down there for a consultation in the GU cancer clinic regarding PSA values.
MDA location in Houston is intimidatin. It's like a downtown full of medical buildings (not all MDA). MDA GU clinic is very busy. However, the doctor took all the time needed to answer our questions. What are the initials of the doc you are seeing there?

Yep, its been a while since I have been to a megaplex. I hear parking is expensive, so I may shuttle there and back. Hey, the first appt is valet parking and they will validate the first one, so you can bet I will take advantage of that one, LOL

J.W. is the docs code. Hopefully he will not be rushed. How many did you see?

Stay at the Rotary House if you can. It's connected to MDA.

I saw Dr. John Davis. Excellent result and recovery with di vinci.

I met with Dr. Ward and really liked him. Glad you are happy with him. But, I had another great Dr. in San Antonio. They actually know each other and have great respect for each other. I just had a better support system in S A. Best wishes to you and your Hubby for a successful recovery.

Hope all turns out well for you. I have been through prostate surgery in Charlotte, NC and Radiation also in Charlotte. My son lives 6 miles from MD Anderson and my next stop could be MD Anderson so I will watch your posts on the steps you take. One question that I have is are you under Medicare or general insurance? I am 70 and under Medicare and was just wondering how much of their treatments are covered, if any?
