I have been very blessed so far. My PSA today was < .05(undetectable) I never had to use a pad since the catheda came out. I can have sex. Wood for a short time without pills and for a longer time with pills. I could not have asked for a better outcome so far.

Congratulations. I had very similar stats and outcomes to you. It's ironic that those of us who have favorable stats, who many would argue should have active surveillance (which you tried for a time) are also those that are most likely to have a good outcome from surgery (if they happen to find a very good surgeon). To get that thing out of you with minor side effects, and a low chance of recurrence, not to mention being able pee like a racehorse again, that's a real blessing. On the other hand, to have surgery for early, lower risk PCa, and come out of it with longterm problems, well, that'd be a major league bummer, as our brothers can testify to. I'm glad I had surgery, as I'm sure you are, but everyone in this situation has to be very, very careful with their decision.

There are some things I didn't know about biopsies. Maybe it is just in my case, but my third biopsy affected my erection. It made it go a little crooked. Also, biopsies can damage the nerves slightly so the more you have the worse for your ability to fight ED later. Still, I would have stayed with active surveillance if I didn't exceed the parameters set at John Hopkins.

Hi Rick,

Congratulations on your great stats and recovery from RALP side effects, it gives hope to those of us who are still suffering through the side effects. I was lucky in that I was dry within 2 1/2 weeks of the removal of my Catheter and I am now working on wood to have sex again.

I do have to agree I love being able to pee like a race horse again yeah is the one great side effect other than having the dam cancer out of your body.
