Just wanting to checking in on those on the east coast. We are right on I-95 in NC, still have some wind, but no power outages and no damage. We faired well. Wanted to see how all are doing. Hope you all make it through and Irene is just a memory tomorrow.

Susan: Glad you guys are all OK.. We have been thinking of all the guys out there as well. We know all too well what a storm can do. In Louisiana we get a bit nervous any time there's a depression in the Atlantic and get real worried if it hits the gulf.

Will be looking for the guys to check in.

My wife and I are visiting in the Washington DC area.  So far, all we've seen is a steady drizzle and windsgusting to maybe 25 or 30 mph.  It's no worse so far than a rainy midwestern day.  I'm sure others are not so fortunate.   We're actually in Springfield VA, but that's only about 25 minutes from D.C.

Here in Western SC, we were getting the outer bands of clouds, 10 mph east wind, and no rain. Being 200 miles inland, didn't expect any more than this. Coastal Charleston got beat up lightly.

I feel for those further north of us, they are getting slammed.

Hurricane Irene will blow a bit and shut out the lights, but will not cause the damage that the media hype suggests.  I get angry at the media when they cry wolf and cause undue panic.  Yes it will be windy and rainy, but normal caution is all that is necessary.  I know something about Hurricanes (Hugo 1989 in St Croix).  This is no Hugo.

Agree that the media is blowing things out of proportion. I am however 2 miles south of 95 on the Connecticut coast. I am 800 ft from the water, but up on a ridge. Not worried abouth the storm surge, but the wind is a concern.

North of NYC about 75 miles or so. Winds have been on and off fairly strong at times. Rain is really coming down hard. Some fair size branches down but nothing major from what I can see. I think the media over played this one.

We are in Northern VA near Dulles airport, had rains and some strong winds - but far as I know no damage in our area at all. We never lost power or the TV / Internet cable.

Irene was a lady :)

Glad to see that those checking in are doing well. People seem to be very hyper about this storm, but better safe than sorry. I am thrilled she held back and didn't do much damage and that everyone seems to be doing well. Prostate cancer is enough, no need to make us deal with major hurricane issues!!!!
