Hoping for a biopsy, but ...

Hello all my brothers on HealingWell. I say brothers because I'll be joining you shorly with some kind of treatment, afterwhich I'll really start posting complaining about the almost certain side effects that come with that treatment choice.

However I have one small problem. I can't get treated until after a biopsy shows the Gleason score and TNM stage so we know what we're dealing with. And I can't get a biopsy until my urinary urge-frequency issues are resolved. A biopsy would only make things worse and right now I'm getting up 4-6 times a night.

Yes, I'm retaining some urine, typically only about 50ml, but I have the feeling of a full bladder and urge to urinate about every hour on average. Last night before going to bed I felt a strong urge with full bladder, so I self-cathed and only 100ml came out. I was able to sleep about two-and-a-half glorious hours before the once-an-hour ritual of bathroom trips began. A biopsy will only make those symptoms worse. I know there will be those who claim they had no urinary issues after a biopsy, but I'm not willing to risk increasing my frequency from once-an-hour to any more than that.

I'm ruling out any kind of UTI because my urine is "normal" and I assume it would've shown up on my last visit to the udoc when they took a sample. I'm taking 8mg Cardura daily and 160mg Saw Palmetto twice-daily.

My uro suggested some kind of treatment before the biopsy like a TUNA or a HoLAP procedure with the Holmium laser. Have you heard of anything like that before doing a biopsy?

I have to say the only good thing about having a radical prostatectomy was getting rid of the constant urge to urinate, especially all night. At the relatively young age of 51 I was getting up every 2 hours at night peeing. I had tried flowmax, cardura, but because I was already on blood pressure pills I ended up getting dizzy everytime I stood up. So they were stopped, and I was about to start using avodart when the cancer was found. Now on stressed out nights from work I get up once, on vacation, stress free nights not at all. Still using trimix but sleeping is much better than before cancer diagnosis and treatment........
