I'm following up on my situation in case there are others like me who initially searched these forums for cases like their own. I do not advocate following my path and believe everyone should make their own choices.
Summary of my previous postings. Experienced urinary issues and pain in groin / prostate area. Felt immediate urgency to urinate as if there was a porcupine in the tip of my penis. Felt like infection if infections have a feeling. Initial PSA test came in at 3.78. Went on Cipro twice and in both cases PSA came in higher than original reading (see history below). Had 10 core biopsy, 9 cores clean with 1 showing very small section of ASAP that was sent to Mayo for analysis. Mayo confirmed ASAP and also said one instance of PIN. Mayo said 50% chance of cancer, not willing to call it cancer due to my age (42 at the time) and suggested repeat biopsy if clinically warranted. Next PSA after biopsy much higher, time to get some additional opinions. Consulted with another local Urologist who aggressively tried to persuade me to get saturation biopsy using more or less a doom and gloom outlook if I didn't. His bed side manner wasn't' for me so I returned to my original Urologist. Original Urologist did not want to rush into anything too quickly siting negative biopsy (even though there was asap/pin) and fact that PSA was jumping up very quickly rather than slow rise. Elected to continue 3 month PSA tests along with DRE. I've had three additional readings since that time and my PSA continuously dropped and is now at it's lowest number recorded 2.71. My Urologist has said that the lower PSA is not a guarantee of anything but he still feels a wait and see approach is best. I'm comfortable with that decision and will not go for a repeat biopsy unless there is a sustained trend upwards. The best news is that the urinary symptoms I experienced are gone.
