Pathology report back after 10/4 surgery

I had my RALP surgery on 10/4 6AM and released from the hospital on 10/5 6PM. My surgeon felt everything went very well, no capsule penetration, no need for lymph node dissection, both nerves spared and bladder to urethra connection excellent.

Pathology came back same Gleason 6 (3+3), all cancer contained in prostated, no capsular penetration and margins are clear. I could not ask for a better report.

Still recovering from bout of severe diarrhea after surgery, slowing down a bit today went in for testing today to see if I picked up a virus or if between the pre-surgery bowel prep, medications, antibiotics and getting a shot of Milk of Magnesia the day I released from the hospital may have cleaned out all the good bacteria from my bowels. I also had a cystogram done to make sure all the plumbing was intact, no leaks found, healing well. The surgeon was so pleased with the results he was thinking about pulling the catheter out today, but we decided to let it heal another few days and moved the removal date from next Thursday (9 days after surgery) to Monday (6 days after surgery) tongue . Then onto the next level of recovery, kegel exercises and ED recovery, then shedule my 4 month PSA test.

Thanks for everyone's support here on the forum, I am so glad I found HW and will always be here for the other brothers in this fraternity. I'll keep adding new updates through my progress.

Excellent report!  Don't be too quick to remove the catheter - there's a lot of healing going on internally and you don't need a setback because a stitch in your urethra didn't quite hold when the catheter is removed too early.

Very good surgical and pathology report, you should be pleased. I agree too, some are too quick to remove the catheter, those extra few days to allow additional healing can only help. Good luck as you continue to recovery.

Congrats on a really good Path report and outcome. Now take your time and heal up properly. There is no need to hurry anything about this process.

Fantastic! Best wishes for a speedy recovery - however as others have said - go slow so the recovery is really speedy:)

Great news, congratulations , leave the catheter in for seven to ten days, we took mine out too soon and had to put it back in after i could not pee
also make sure they fill you up and test you before you leave, the nurse also told me that the bladder spasm medicine has the opposite affect after the
catheter is removed and makes it so you cant pee, we need some more clarification on this.

Fabulous!!! Congrats on the best report a man could want.

Ditto to the recommendation to be patient with the catheter. I left mine in for 18 months! (ok, it just seemed like it)

Outstanding news. I think it's a good idea to err on the side of caution with the catheter removal. It sure is great to hear that you had such a great outcome.

Thank you guys for the encouragement and recomendations. I am taking the recovery period slowly at this point, it feels like everyday has been better than the last. I've been fortunate to be off pain meds since the day of surgery, took some advil the next day and nothing siince. Walking came easier than I expected starting the day after surgery. I was on my feet and walking three hours straight for appointments yesterday. At the end though I hit that wall of tiredness but after resting for a bit at home regenerated.

The original time period for removal of the catheter we discussed preop was 7-10 days with some variation based on recovery and healing. Yeah removing the catheter 3 days after surgery would have made me a little uneasy but my doc says they do it at times. After talking about it he decided to go with 6 days since the cystogram looked so good. I've read some various stories here on the board about timing of the removal, also some where the surgeon did not do a cystogram prior as well which helps show any leaks and healing. 

Thinking positive before, during and after finding out you have PCa helps keep your spirits high. Having the support of family, friends and co-workers is very beneficial. One of the biggest positive influences through my PCa has been my wife who has been there with me at every step, not only caring for me but encouraging. I'm not sure my spirits would have been as good as they have been without her.

Congrats on the great path report and having a loving wife during this. Enjoy that cath while you can. But who knows, you might be one of the lucky patients that become dry fast and I hope you are. Sounds like you chose a great doc.

Awesome path report and glad you are doing well. Take your time to heal. Although I could have gone back to work after one week, I took five weeks at the advice of Uro. I haven't felt this good emotionally or physically in years.

Similar to you BDCyclist I was advised even though I may feel like going back to work early use the 6 weeks to recoup. I also spoke to a few friends that had the surgery and one of them took the time and was pleased with his progress, the other went back after 4 weeks (BIG MISTAKE), he said he was tired more and took longer to recover. 

The doctor I chose was highly recommended and everyone I spoke to said if I chose RALP he was the one. He has been so straight forward, friendly, treats you like a brother, proactive, calls as soon as news is in from test results and highly trained/skilled.

Pushing the walking more today to 1/2 mile this morning and plan to do another this afternoon. NFL Sunday though, so I'm sure I'll be up and down out of the recliner several times after plays and scores.
