Weak stream after catheter removed

I was healing so well after surgery my scheduled pull of my catheter was moved up from 9 days to 6 days Monday 10/10/11. Since the removal I noticed the urine stream to be less than before surgery. I had an ultrasound done which showed my bladder is emptying but it takes a little time to empty with a little burning. I was told the weaker stream was caused by still being early in post surgery which will eventually get better. During the day I noticed some leakage when getting up from the chair or out of bed which is to be expected while I work on the incontinence and kegels.

Has anyone esle experienced a weak stream after catheter removal? 

How long after removal did the stream go back to being strong again?

What kind of recovering did you do, advil, motrin etc. to assist if there is any swelling remaining?

I didn't have a good strong stream until I was 100% dry about 3 1/2 weeks after my surgery, but it really got strong about 2 months post surgery. The burning will last a couple more weeks until the urethra is fully healed. I also didn't need and pain killers after about 5 days post surgery. Good luck on your recovery.

Thank you for the reply Water Guy, I guess I need to be a little more patient. Fortunately I have not had to take any pain medications including over the counter since the first day of surgery. It helps to hear you had a similar experience to mine and what I should expect. Otherwise I am so greatful to be on the otherside healing and able to discuss my journey with other PCa brothers. :-)

I patiently (maybe not so much) waited about 2 months before I complained to my uro. After about 90 days of no progress he scheduled surgery to remove a stricture in the bladder neck. That solved the problem, although now a year later is half what it was right after the surgery.

You pointed out in another post that you and I had our catheters taken out the same day (10/10). I too have a weak stream, but have been encouraged to "let 'er fly" once in awhile over the toilet, but mostly a dribble here and there.

The pain I am experiencing is in the perineal area (walking helps), and in the middle of the night when it feels like someone is yanking on my penis. shakehead

Hopefully, you have a fast recovery, but have the patience to not force the issue.

I couldn't even make a stream for around 8 days after my catheter was removed. Do your kegels, it'll get better.

Took a while before I had a good stream after cath' removal, don't remember exactly how long but by I think by 2-3 weeks out I had a good stream. The area is pretty well abused and it takes time for healing to happen and the swelling to go down.
