We had trick or treaters yesterday, and I could share some horror stories for sure. Here are two: a woman came to the door with 2 bags for candy, but only one child. My wife asked her who the second basket was for and she said she had another child out in the car, too tired and too cold to come to the door. When my wife said we normally only give candy to children who actually come to the door, the woman screamed, "Well then "F" you!" in front of several small children who were waiting their turn for candy and continued to shout obscenities all the way down the driveway.
Another group of adolescents was coming down the block (not even in costume) and tossing what we often call "F bombs" so loud that they could be heard 200 feet away. When they started up the driveway, I told them sorry, no candy for foul mouthed kids, only good little boys and girls.
Halloween and trick or treating just isn't what it used to be....at least not in our town. We love the little kids, but Halloween is being ruined by adolescents who've never been taught how to behave in public and who roam around collecting pillowcases full of candy that should be for little kids maybe age 13 and under.
We had about 150 kids this year....pretty typical for our neighborhood, but about a dozen of them were young adults who should have stayed home.
I hope you have better luck, Slink. Oh, and I hope you enjoy some of that candy.
