Another bad psa

Going to change my screen name to losing faith . Had anOther bad psa, o.92. Doubling time under 3 months. Dosent seem to be any way to slow the cancer down. ht is in my near future. Life expectancy not looking very good

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear about your disappointing numbers. Try to hang in there, though.

I can't advise you on this directly, but you don't have to look too hard around here to find guys like you who turned their PSA trend around. It happens.

Keep the faith, and read the well-informed posts that are sure to follow mine. And please keep us in the loop on how you're doing. There are a lot of guys here who understand and care.

Sorry to hear the news, but whatever you do, don't give up hope. You very well may need HT sooner rather than later, and it very well could keep things in check for years to come. Good luck, but understand why you feel bummed out about it.

Thanks Jonathan and Dave. I see the oncologist on Thursday and will see what the recommendation is.

Keeping Faith

My PSA was 1447, after the first HT it is now 46.6.

My Urologist told me before they started treatment "This is treatable and surviviable"

Man I hate hearing these reports but do Keep the Faith. There are things to slow that bad boy down. I have not advise just wanted to say keep us posted were in your corner with you.

Hang in there. I know this a big blow. But, there a lot more arrows in the quiver that can do a lot of good. There are quite a few of us on HW that are on HT right now. We will stand by for any questions, advice, etc assuming that may be in your future. Good luck and best wishes with your appointment. You will likely feel more positive once you have an action plan in place.

I'm on the same path - but I'm not even close to giving in to it. HT is on the horizon, so I'm trying to drop the extra weight (21 pounds the last few months, want to drop 15 more). I'll do what I can do.

I guess we'll be exchanging HT stories.

Sounds familiar - I've dropped 20 pounds, . Fell great, look great, just this dam time bomb inside me.

I would like to share HT information, I'll post again tomorrow or friday with my Oncologist's plan. I'm using Petrylak at Columbia in NY.

After reading your signature, it seems to me you have made all of the right decisions thus far. Like stated above, this is treatable and beatable. So, keep plugging away at it and we will be here to help.

Hang in there, I am/was in the same boat, I had the surgery and then the radiation and the PSA still continued to rise( actually doubling in 3 months like you). Docs recommended HT and within a month the PSA dropped to <.1 and has stayed there for the last year and a half. Just had my 3rd 6-month Eligard shot two weeks ago, and my Uro said we will come off after two years (9/12) if it still remains the same.

I don't post much, but read the posts daily, I wanted to tell you that this is a Journey of Ups and Downs and like one of the other posters said there are many arrows in the quill.

i like the name Faith, so hope that you decide to keep it. As other's have mentioned they have had much higher numbers and are doing okay. keep the faith.

dear Keeping - don't lose the Faith - this is just one of those dips in the rollercoaster called PCa-
-can't advise you on treatment but now is the time to find out what is BEST FOR YOU
- if you ain't happy with something try to avoid a knee-jerk reaction - get the answers, the treatment, the doctor(s) that is/are right for YOU.....

Hang in there, you have lots of options and treatments. I was in your boat a few months ago and am feeling a lot better now that my PSA is undetectable after only a few months of HT. And I'm a Gleason 9. So there is hope.

Ok I'm back from the oncologist. He spent a lot of time with me and we went through the whole treatment tree, starting from intermittent ht and going through each stage from there. I learned a lot but my head is about to explode. Anyway, we are not starting ht just yet. I'm on a 6 week follow up and unless the rate of psa growth slows (which it hasn't so far), we will probably start ht in around June. A 7 month stint at first.

I am just in the beginning with this post operation psa monitoring, please keep us posted
i am similar story to you, i am 53, psa was 5 and gleason was 4+3 did da vinci
found positive nodes and tissue,. now am waiting i have just got my post op psa it is 0.39

now i am looking at HT treatment, say good by to sex, i guess....

i am suffering mentally and hating this new life...

i would like to get in contact with guys like you and me and compare stories
in order to figure out the best line of procedures etc......

Surprising the SRT had no impact on your psa. Has your oncologist advised HT right away or are you waiting a little while as I am (so as not to start the HT resistance clock yet)

Jaxum have you had SRT yet?

The SRT certainly did fail.

Dr. Scholz said when my PSA gets to 1 I should seriously consider HT.

My last PSA test this week did just that.

I will consult with him Monday night.

Another top-notch doctor had indicated that I should not rush into HT. Again, as many of us have posted, two different viewpoints.

My brain says the former view is the "right one."

But I sure don't want to do this.

Let me know what happens with you on Monday. I'd like to factor it into my decision as to when to start.

My oncologist (petrylak at Columbia) seems to prefer that given my age (51) it's best not to start too early. He plans to start at a psa of around 4-5. But with a 3 month doubling time, that number is only a few months away.

Guys, keep in mind that if you go on HT, you need to monitor the levels of Testosterone.  If it does not go to castrate range (<20 ng/dl) and stay there while you are on Lupron, then Lupron alone will not be sufficient.

Yeah, I'll post an update probably Tuesday.

At this point, I'm hoping Dr. Scholz will be amenable to delaying until after the Holiday Season.

My next appointment with my urologist (who would be the one to administare the HT) is scheduled for first week in January. I would also do another PSA just before that in order to get a last pre-HT baseline (and, in the back of my mind, hope for a last-second Hail Mary Miracle that would result in my not doing HT -- dream on!).
