First post and I am very nervous about it. I would like your opinion on deciding whether to visit another doctor who can prescribe the magic potion, Trimix that is! I went to see my URO yesterday for the results of my first PSA after my surgery and everything was zero, I never thought that a number that has no value was so invaluable. Anyway, he asked about the incontinence and I explained that I was down to one pad per day and further explained that the pad is mostly dry at the end of the day. He suggested starting wearing underwear and see if that would feel better. I started today and never thought that wearing under wears would feel so good! Anyhow, I asked about injections and he explained that it is too early to talk about that –is he crazy?-. He has me on a 5mg daily Cialis and that is doing absolutely nothing. I got me an Osborne pump, but those that have used any of these devices would know that is not a good experience. Although I have to admit that the pump is only good for flooding and oxygenating you penis, not more, not less. I attempted to use it for intercourse once and it was a disaster, so I gave up on that method. My question to you all gurus out there is: Do you think I could go to see another doctor that can prescribe injections? I love my doctor, don’t get me wrong, however as I have read around here, some doctors are good for one thing, but not for another. The majority of uros concentrate in eradicating the cancer, but few place any emphasis in ED recovery. I have an appointment with my regular doctor sometime this month, I am thinking about discussing it with him, although I know he will probably tell me to consult the urologist, go figure!!! What do you guys think about this dilemma? Thanks in advance for any wise advice you guys can provide!"


First welcome, and hope you can get plenty of responses to your post. As you say, each doc does things differently. Did you ask him when he thought it would be the time for you to try injections? Maybe you need to discuss this further with him, maybe even print out the study that states the early use is helpful, and see if you two can reach some kind of decision about it. It would be a shame to throw away a good docs relationship for this, but with some work from both parties maybe a understanding can be reached. Worth a try. Also, if he still won't do it, any medical doctor can write the script, so if you have a GP or such, then you could keep your good uro , if you wanted to go that route.

My URO started me on injections 6 weeks after surgery after 3 weeks of daily Cialis that didn't work. He believes in a new protocol of getting blood flow back into the penis as soon as possible to promote healing of the nerves and to promote less ED problems down the road.  There are a series of videos by a Dr Mulhall with Sloan Kettering cancer clinic and he is a PC ED specialist and starts their patients on injections 30 days after surgery you can find the videos by Googling him. El Chele, another welcome to the forum.

My uro had me with my first injection exactly one month after surgery ~ and no ill effects But your uro may have reasons for delaying. If he won't prescribe Trimix ever, (and there is no medical reason) then you will need to go to another doctor.

In the meantime keep going with your pump. I have had excellent results with a cheapie, and three years out am still refining my technique. With both injections and the pump, you will have many failures to start with, but learn from each and never give up.
