Most guys who have been through SRT have read this study but if you're trying to decide when to do SRT here is some info that you should know.

I could not find any link to the predictive nomogram they talked about...Like most of us know, it's a 50-50 crap shoot.. But a 50% chance is a lot better than no chance'..

Thanks David for posting the study. I've read it before but this time I studied it and the nomogram that I used was in Figure 3. Just as reference, the MSK nomogram gave me a 47% odds of non-recurrence after SRT and other studies predicted even lower. The nomogram in Figure 3, using more variables predicts success at around 60% for me.

This is a significant difference to me even with the uncertainties of modeling. I just received the results of my 19 month post-SRT psa test and it came in at <.1 (my first undetectable reading ever was at 13 months post-SRT) so I am encouraged with the study you posted. I was a bit worried at my first psa reading right before completing SRT since my psa had gone up compared to the start. After that though, a very gradual decline until the first undetectable at 13 months post-SRT. Long way to go but I'm moving in the right direction.

Also David (dkob131), you may not remember but you urged me to go ahead with the SRT and keep exercising and I would do fine with the SEs.... thanks, I did and so far so good.

read this article before, on my own, lot of good info.

according to the calculator, my SRT should have worked for at least 6 years, in my case, it failed in 9 months.

After reviewing the nomogram, it appears that my psa is still too low to calculate a probability of recurrence. Here is my situation, though: I am just past two years out from my RP. During the first 18 mos., 4 psa tests came back at <0.05. Then, in April 2011, my psa crept up to .07, and then in October 2011 it had ticked up to 0.08. At that point, with my wife's urging, I went to see my urologist; he sent me for a bone scan, which was clear. Next week (at my urologist's suggestion) I am seeing a radiology oncologist just to discuss options should SRT become necessary. Am I being too aggressive? I realize that my psa is still below 0.1, but it is going up. I had a 9 Gleason, with no lymph node involvement. A small positive margin was not definitive whether is was caused by the surgery itself.

Am I making much ado about nothing?
