If your husband is not on probiotics already, I strongly suggest you get him started on some immediately. I was told by my colon doctors, and oncologist that brands don't really matter. They did suggest taking more than one brand together as they each have different strains of the "good" bacteria. My oncologist actually prescribed them for me while I was in the hospital with C.Diff.

Hand washing is also very important, as the hand sanitizers really have no impact on C. Diff bacteria. The staff didn't seem to know that in the hospital. I was also on Flagyl and Vancomiacin, the only 2 "big gun" antibiotics that still have an affect on C. Diff. Another clue that you have it, is that they put you in isolation once it's confirmed.

I don't know how forthcoming they are if you contract it while in the hospital. I have a brother-in-law that was recently hospitalized after a quite serious industrial accident.
While there he developed C. Diff symptoms. They moved him into isolation, but he was never actually told why.
