I don't have complete information yet. Just dx'ed earlier today. Doctor recommended active monitoring, but told me to consider all options. Informed a large mailing will be arriving soon.

Appears to be a great forum. Looking forward to reading and perhaps contributing as the treatment and associated effects take shape. Read some beneficial points here already. Thx

Thx for the welcome. Irony noted about not wanting to be a member. It's true, which made your comment funny to me, but on a deeper level, I greatly appreciate the site. Lost a buddy to PCa nearly 3 years ago -- wish I'd known about this resource for him.

Welcome.

You have plenty of time to work out what to do.
Your stats seem on the face of it to be suitable for AS. But you are young. Better is probably what I have started called Very Active Surveillance. ie don't do anything just yet, but keep a close eye on your PSA level eg every 2/3 months rather than wait a year. And in the meantime read up on the options etc.

You've come to the right place to learn a lot....and already got some good advice from English Alf. With your numbers you have plenty of time to research your options and decide what you want to do. Good folks on here. And the moderators do a good job of keeping the discussions more or less on point....supporting guys like all of us (and some spouses) who find ourselves having to deal with PC.

I was 1 of 12 slides and Gleason 6[3+3]. Just a thought maybe a Bone Scan is in order to make sure of no progression?

Welcome to HW,

With the numbers you posted, AS is a good starting point, you are in a good position not to have to rush to any kind of primary treatment decision if one is needed. View and study all options closely, if you decide on treatment, you should have the full spectrum of choices before you. There is a lot of combined experience here, covering all treatment methods, so you should be able to get a pretty good handle of what to typically expect.

Good luck, sorry you needed to find us and be here, but since you are, make yourself at home. Remember, there's no such thing as a dumb question here, and if you ever need to vent, we can handle it.

You might want to read a book or two to fill in the background..The ones by Walsh and Chodak will get you up to speed and sweep away rumor-based assumptions you may have...Lets see, with your numbers you might as well read 'Invasion of the prostate snatchers" by Blum/Scholz too...

Pretty conservative biopsy figures, sounds low grade cancer at the moment. I'd go with the other comments about AS and 3 month PSAs - if it were my prostate. Good luck on your journey and try not to become too anxious with it. They say G3+3 is the lowest detectable cancer grade but 3+4 is the next step up which is cause for thought on decisions.

You couldn't find a better place for support than here.

Welcome crackpipe, could you change your tag. Crack has destroyed thousands of lives in my state and I am sure in the whole country. This forum is getting surreal. I emailed a mod early this morning HST no response, but if we inch toward spirituality its a no no, On a site called healing well thats bizzare. Peter Waite, can some one use serialkiller 2 as a tag. Crack is a serial killer. Im totally flabbergasted, this is allowed. Absolutly disgusting!!

Thanks for the comments above. All are noted and appreciated. According to the ultrasound, the tumor is on top of the prostate; I'm looking at surgery to avoid involvement with surrounding tissue, perhaps esp lymph.

The advice about not rushing is understood and appreciated. Making no moves until after the holiday.

I apologize for going off-topic from prostate cancer for a minute, but a reply seems necessary to a person who appears upset, including some strong language.

@Logoslidat: understand your concern. Your point seemed unrelated to prostate cancer, and I didn't see that you asked, but I've never used crack. You didn't ask, and it's unrelated to prostate cancer, but the tag is a reference to a presumably dead friend. That is, several of us believe he's now dead from crack abuse or the associated life. I honor Mike's memory though. He was a good father, businessman, and just a good guy, prior to his decline. I remember his decline and the tag is a reminder, to me, of both the reason for his decline and how easy it is for anyone to lose it on crack. I'm grateful for my life without it, and I'd appreciate it if you could address me reasonably. Take care.

Thank you for understanding my concern, now if I could get the mod squad to understand. I could give you a thousand stories related to drug abuse and its evils and why another name would be appropriate as I am convinced that you could. The strong language, flabbergasted, absolutly disgusting was directed at the moderaters. It is now directed at at you and I will add tw more, poppycock and balderdash. Moderators I expect an apology for y'all not getting back to me I addressed this issue independantly thru my email. You still have not responded. I chose to post it, to get some action and still no response. BTW any editing on my post was done by me and had nothing to do with strong lanquage. Just so we have no sophistry.
