Question about cyst on testicles

I have been lurking around this forum for over two years since I had my prostate surgery in 2007, but now that I have a differnt problem, I thought I would ask a question.  about 4 years ago, during a routine exam, the doc found a lump on my testicle. I went for an ultra sound and it was found to be a benign cyst called a spermatocele.  The uro said you can have surgery to remove it, but it isn't necessary because it is benign and it can't hurt you, so just leave it alone.  Well, now, that cyst has grown to about 1 1/2" in diameter and it is as if I have a third testicle in my scrotum because it is so big.  There is no pain with it, but it is getting very uncomfortable because my scrotum is so full.  I have plans to get another ultra sound , and this time I will tell the uro that I want surgery to remove it. 

 My question here is if anyone else has had a lump on the testicles and had it removed and what can I expect as to pain afterward from testicle surgery?

I too, had one for years, left testicle I believe. It got as big as perhaps 1/4". Several doctors looked at it over the years, it was considered common and benign, so I never did anything. Interestingly, about a month after I had my open RP surgery, by chance, I noticed it was no longer there. Asked my surgeon if he did it while I was under, and he said no way. Regardless, its not there any more.

Based on the size your describe, if it were me, I would want it removed.

I've had cysts on my right testicle for over 40 years. I had a small one when I was in my 20s and they did a biopsy for testicular cancer, which fortunately was negative. But the biopsy left some scar tissue and more cysts started developing over the years. I would guess I have 3 or 4 now, the largest of which is about the size of a grain of rice. I've had ultrasound 3 or 4 times and they always tell me not to worry, they are just cysts. But at times they get painful because they put pressure on the testicle.

I have had one of these cysts for about ten years but have had NO pain associated with it. While taking only one injection of Lupron, it got very small. Now 18 months later it has returned to about the size of the right ball..
My Uro explained that it is nothing to worry about as long as it remains transparent when a flashlight beam will pass through it - if that beam shines through the scrotum..said if the beam is no longer passing through it, then there may be some cause for concern.. Finally explained that these things are pretty much like a sack of fluid.

<< Based on the size your describe, if it were me, I would want it removed >> Agree. The surgical procedure for removing these cysts is referred to as an Epididymectomy  which I underwent in 1987. Both cysts were the size of golf balls and, while uncomfortable, were not painful. This is  not    an outpatient procedure which required a spinal block and an overnite hospital stay. The cysts, in my case, were non-cancerous but caution in this regard dictated my go-ahead decision.   Mitch in SC
