Dad has a PSA of 2006

I suppose the doctor might think it's a test to see if the previous 2006 was a false number so anything around or higher means it was true, if it's significantly lower then it proves that it was wrong. Also it might be too long to wait for 8 weeks if 2006 was a true number. But I,d expect most likely my dad needs to do another round of biopsy which is scheduled on jan 4. Is there anything I can request to have a more "accurate" biopsy? I was just wondering if the last biopsy had missed anything major...thanks!

I have a friend that is cancer free with a PSA closing in on 20.

Are you sure he's not missing a decimal point? 20.06 makes a little more sense.

Just a thought.

Hi guys, I just want to update you with the new PSA number- 2939. Unfortunately the previous number was not a false positive. Of course the recent biopsy has boosted the number for a bit too but now we know for sure there must be somehting going on. We're waiting for the 2nd biopsy on Jan 4. Please wish us good luck!

If he has cancer it is probably at a location that is hard for the needle biopsy to reach. Sometimes doctors use a saturation biopsy to detect. In the most unfortunate case that he does have cancer, Hong Kong has excellent doctors and medical facilities to treat him if needed and he should still enjoy many years of good quality time.

Happy new year everyone!

My 2012 doesnt start well, my dad's bone scan shows mets all over the pelvic area, some on the back and collar bone. Since last biopsy was negative, he had his 2nd biopsy done today, result won't be out until jan 19. With aPSA of almost 3000 and mets on bone scan, instead of waiting for a confirmed diagnosis, we decided to wait no more and take a chance to start HT with Casodex 150mg immediately for 6 weeks and injection in 2 weeks time. Then wait for 3 months to monitor the PSA. Is it the way to go?

I hope the medicine works well on him and hope all of u will have a happy and more healthy year ahead.

PS for those who take Casodex 150, how much r u paying?

I am very sorry to hear of your father's condition. It is not the end of the world. Hormone therapy can be very effective. Once the results of the biopsy come back you will know how aggressive the cancer is. Not too many years back hormone therapy and chemotherapy were the only option for us stage 4 guys. that is no longer the case. There are a plethora of highly effective treatment available. it is most important for your father to feed his body and feed his spirit. Some men have many side effects to hormone therapy. some men tolerate them better than others. I have been on hormone therapy on and off for 5 and 1 half years. I am in the best shape of my life and in excellent health other than the prostate cancer thing. Attitude is everything fighting this disease. Stay positive. At your father's h e me very well out live this disease.

Definitely! Start with the Casodex and the injection! I imagine the shot you are talking about is something in the Lupron family.

Also talk to your Dad's doctors about something for his bone health. I get a Zometa transfusion every month for mine.

Todd's (livingwell) numbers were higher than mine and as you see Todd has done very well.

I was dx'ed with a PSA of 1447 on July 12 of 2011, after my Casodex for about a month and my first Lupron the PSA went to 46.6. My prostate cancer has also spread to the bones - however X-Rays showed he bones are still in good health.
