PSA results -- any time I want to look

I gave blood for the PSA yesterday.

I planned to pick up the results Monday (I have a telephone consultation on Tuesday so I want the latest results).

Well, I found out the office is closed Monday but they had the results today. I have it, in an envelope.

I've decided to wait to Monday. We are busy this weekend. I have found every PSA result to be like a kick in the gut (PSADT of about 3 months). I figure it's better to wait.

Anybody else play these games (ie: delay getting the results)?

I have scheduled the tests for erly Jan to avoid getting the bad news during the holidays. But it is not working too well. I am anxious about it all the time.

Been there,done that when i was where you are at(rising psa)....not anymore. Almost  undetectable now :=)

I don't rush to phone the doctor's office to find my results. But if I had a latest result in an envelope, I'd open it.

Regardless of whether I know the result or not, my future course is charted. If the result is worse than I expect, my future treatment will be a little (or a lot!) sooner. If the result is the same as I expect or better, then I'll take the good news now.

And whatever the result, I remove a source of anxiety for the weekend. Go on, open it :-)

Difficult to have to be even weighing the decision.

Personally, i'd open it.

This experience has taught me that I want to have as much knowledge as I can on the subject so that the informed decision will be mine.

Also, what have they left to scare you with? You've already confronted the thoughts of your mortality along the journey...

I am with you Mel.   Enjoy the weekend and wonderful holiady free of PCa thoughts. 

I just gave blood yesterday and get my results mailed back to me from Bostwick...usually takes about a week.   The wait is no big deal to me.   I applaud your decision to wait.

I have one in January and am anxious also, but as one poster said, " worrying is like praying for something bad to happen" open it, regardless of the results, you will be glad you did. It will be one more example, that you are not afraid of the beast and will face it head on. Logo

What can you do between now and your doctor's appointment? Nothing. So, if I were you, I would just enjoy the holiday and worry about it later.

I'll open it on Monday and reveal the results to you when I get back on HW.

From my experience, the kick in the teeth from a bad PSA result (which is all I've been getting) is worse than the anxiety of waiting for the result.

Good decision, Mel. I hope it's good news, and I hope you had a pleasant Christmas despite the envelope sitting there.

Mel, after finding it in the letterbox, have a bit of truama walking back to the house with it, then open it quickly and read on, funny thing is in between tests hardly ever think about it, only as the time gets close, can't leave mine unopened, have to know.
