My BMs were different after surgery and still are a bit different now having had SRT as well, but I have only been constipated once or twice. (That definitely makes things ache where the prostate used to be.) Walking drinking and massaging my lower back usually help deal with it.
I feel that I was quuick lucky to have my surgery in July as I was able to eat lots of fresh fruit in the early stage of my recovery. Strawberries, raspberries etc are nearly always in the supermarket here, but it was the right season for them then, so they were cheaper and tastier. also lots of (seedless) grapes about too, and I usually eat a banana every day too. Also had lots of salads with meals, then and am still eating much more in the way of salad, even in the depths of winter. (I always eat/serve a side salad with Italian food for instance).
Beer can make a lot of gas (at both ends), but you can reduce that if you pour it badly so you get a lot of froth. As I know tend to have just one glass of beer I now pick something more expensive with a better flavour and quality to drink slowly and enjoy. If I'm thirsty and want a beer I have a glass of water first. (That's a trick my daughter taught me: she drinks a glass of water when she wants lemonade coke etc, then she only feels like having a small coke and thus consumes less sugar etc that way.)
I seem to have coped over Xmas and New Year when I've drunk a larger amount of alcohol, but about ten years ago we started drinking wine out of smaller glasses which seemed to make a big difference to how much we drank.
Spicy food often just keeps me awake, biggest difference I've noticed is regarding onions. I now cook with shalots or white/sweet onions instead of "regular" onions and have much less "indigestion" as a result. Also brocolli instead of cauliflower makes a difference. (My farts now tend to be odourless!!)
I think that regarding BMs after surgery this is an area where things defintiley get better for everyone.
