I had robotic surgery on 16 Dec 2010. Today at just over 13 months I had my first partial erection that was suitable for missionary position intercourse. I have used cialis since month 2 and pump since month 5. I have had some steady improvement over recent months and hope that things will improve still further.

I am posting this to give encouragement to those who are further back in their recovery than me and like me are wondering whether things will ever improve. Its a long road to recovery and so be patient and keep up with the daily therapy.

I have recently bought a Viberect and have now included that in my daily therapy. I thought it would help to waken up my sleeping nerves. I am already getting more sensitivity.

Good news! Maybe my two year investment in Cialis isn't  a waste after all (just picked up my 8 pills today - $169)

Hope the progress continues!

I would like to share my Post-Prostatectomy ED Journey with the

healingwell.com Group.

I developed ED Post-Prostatectomy in February 2004. I was 65 and had had never had a prior history of ED. I studied the literature and attended ED Seminars for several years and finally got to speak with two men had the Coloplast Titan Penile Implant Procedure done. This convinced me to move forward and I had my Titan Penile

Implant Procedure done three weeks later. In retrospect, this proved to be one of best decisions I have made. It truly "gave me my life back", just as the two men I spoke with said it would and, also restored emotional intimacy with my wife.

I share my story to demonstrate that a complete and satisyfing sex

life is definitely possible Post-Prostatectomy.

PSA 2.2

Biopsy 2 out of 12 cores positive

Gleason 3+3 = 6

Post-op Pathology showed clear margins (encapsulated)

I stopped using Cialis at 9 months after consultation with my urologist because it seemed like it wasn't doing much good. However, a few weeks later I realised that I wasn't getting any nocturnal erections any more which I had been whilst taking cialis. So I started again and I now notice the nocturnals again. So I am convinced that the cialis is doing good slowly in the background even if it wasn't creating obvious erections when I wanted them.

I should point out that my nocturnals are just partial erections but nonetheless shows things are recovering slowly.

What is a Viberect ? I've been using Cialis, Levitra and Viagra with no success. Of course, I'm now only 7 months since surgery so maybe I'm trying to hard to rush the end of the ED before my body has healed itself....if it is going to do so.

My doc had me on Cialis 20mg, every third day for the first 6 weeks following surgery, with no results.  I then switched to Viagara 100mg, (as needed), and have seen positive results.  Not quite as stiff as before, but definitely encouraging.

I'm glad the nocturnal partial erections are considered to be a positive sign of recovery since I just had my first one last night after having had the surgery last June 14 and been taking 2.5 Cialis as a rehabilitative dosage...maybe it's starting to happen!!!!!

Sounds good! Keep patient as its a long road to recovery for most of us. yeah

notsostiff...since my previous post I have used the last of my six MUSE inserts...the first five did not work....BUT..the sixth one gave me my first useable erection since the June 14 CRYOGENIC surgery, about an 80% erection that gave my wife and me 15-20 minutes of greatly needed intimacy. Thank God it looks like things may be starting to wake up. I guess the moral of this story is to just keep on trying and trying until something finally works...now I'm praying that it will keep on working!!!

Did you experience an ache from the muse? I tried it long ago and it not only partially worked, but was actually painful for me. Thus, I gave up on that route. A few years later, as a last ditch effort, I moved on to injections of Tri Mix. No SE's so far and successful after some experimenting with the right dose. I am glad that you are finally getting some response.  

Way to go GettingStiffer!

I'm almost 3 years out from open RP. None of the big 3 oral drugs did much for me right after surgery. I started Trimix about 8 months post surgery. I injected at significantly decreasing amounts for about 5 months...with an ER visit in there for priapism. IMO the injections got things jump started to where oral drugs started working (Levitra) 

At 3 years out, I usually don't even need a pill anymore. So there is hope.

I wasn't that optimistic a year or so out from RP. I'm pretty happy with where I am now. Not quite what it was just before surgery, but good.

I am happy to see that after more than 5 years on this forum I am now a "veteran member". I guess that is because I finally reached the 500 posts number.  Actually HW has been a friend and supporter, and I thank all of those who share their journey.

The recovery of sexual function is one of the most important things we all look for.  I am a big supporter of injections for those who haven't found solutions with other options. It's nice to hear from guys who don't need that to go on with their lives.

I'm always a little bemused (not amused!) by the guys who come here at <3 months from prostatectomy with tales of woe about ED. Guys, if you manage an erection proper in this time frame you would appear to be in the lucky 10% or less. If you aren't in the lucky group it doesn't raise extra cause for concern over getting back to your old tricks!

According to ED specialist Dr Mulhall at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, ED typically reaches it's worst about 3 months out from surgery. If you still aren't achieving usable erections at 12 months it isn't too late. Even at 24 months it may not be too late. Even at 36 months it may not be too late - I can vouch for that.

However it would be wrong to take this as a reason to be complacent. Actively stimulating every day the disobedient part of your anatomy is important and the pills, even if they seem like an expensive waste of money are worth considering. However in my experience, injection therapy is a great way to kick start your ED recovery. Get over your prejudices about sticking and give it a try if other things aren't working at 6-12 months. Get the results that pills won't deliver and do it frequently, say twice a week with pills on days between. The "waking: of the nerves can be spectacular.

As I am new I may be covering old ground, I have only read recent posts.
I found Viagra better than Cialis. But it needs military planning and you have a red face and lassitude all day. Take 2 paracetamols with Cialis or Viagra - no need for a headache.
I agree with the last post, keep up the stimulation and intimacy. It is important for recovery, short term pleasure and the relationship
Remember too that ED stops penetrative sex. You can have plenty of the other. Not as good as regular sex but again practice improves matters.
My wife said she had sometimes wondered if gay women's sex was as good as penetrative sex, but now after my op she thinks it must be.

No pain or discomfort after using the MUSE, just that good tight, hot feeling that goes along with that long-awaited erection!

Notsostif....Thank you for the post......I'm 8 mos from RALP and have been using Viagra and I do see an improvement in combination with VED,also using .07 of trimix and quadmix injections,they all are working so you have given me hope......maybe someday wood will appear. I do feel sensations when looking at **** therapy..LOL..!
