Eighteen months out from SRT and still going to the bathroom 2-3 times a night and urgency during the day.  RO tried Detrol and Ditropan, both of which didn't help.  Went back to my Uro yesterday and he prescribed Vesicare.  I've seen a couple of mentions here of the drug. Has anybody had any long term success with it?   How about any bad side effects?  I'm willing to try anything to get a good nights sleep!!!!!!  Squid.

I took it after surgery.... It blurred my vision a bit..

I took Ditropan very briefly. I hated it. It inhibited my ability to swallow my food. I had to take a sip a water with each bite of food to wash it down.

No personal experience but my wife's on it, it helped her a lot. No side effects other than having to concentrate to start flow (a good thing). Before she was up multiple times a night, had urgency and leakage and was considering a sling, my Uro got her to try Vesicare first. I hope it works for you.

I just started the Vesicare a couple of days ago. Although I can't comment on long term results, it does appear to be helping. Not only was I getting up frequently at night, very little to nothing was coming out when I tried to urinate, even though had a very strong urge to go, resulting in quite a bit of pain. Hopefully I won't have to take it long term, but it does seem to helping in the here and now.

Oddly, I got neck pain from Vesicare and had to stop it. It was also expensive.
Now I'm taking alfuzosin which is similar to hytrin.

Picked up my Vesicare yesterday.  Took pill as directed prior to going to bed.  Went to bed at 10:30 and woke up at 12:00 because I had wet myself.  Only the third time since surgery almost two years ago that I wet myself at night.  Woke up again to pee at 2:00 and 4:00.  I was realy hopeful that this med would do the trick. I'll try it a few more nights and see what happens. Hopefully they won't be wet nights.  Squid.

I've been prescribed Vesicare 2 weeks ago. I've no side-effects and little by little when I'm at home I do not wear any pad.
Hope all continues to go well in the future. I'm just patient and optimistic. The best also for you guys.

I am so far really happy with Vesicare. It has cut my urgency and frequent urination down to negligible problems, and I'm able to sleep through the night w/o having to get up .

SubicSquid---I feel for you; Hang in there!

I had some SERIOUS bladder-urgency problems (INTENSE every half-hour or so all throught the day AND night, with but dribble to show for it) with my Pca intruding into my bladder, so was prescribed Vesicare (and radiation). It took a few days to kick in, but it quelled the "demon" and I went from up-eight-times-a-night to twice a night. I did unknowingly wet myself, however, for the first week or so. I thought I was "doomed" to man-diapers, but I have gone two months now without a repeat (I did go off the Vesicare about a month ago-radiation treatment killing off the offending lesion causing the urgency). The "drying-out" of the mouth and esophagus was an anxiety-producing side effect--I had food "caught" halfway down the throat MANY times until I "learned" to "grease" the tract with fluids before I ate, and ate SLOWLY. Once I stopped the Vesicare, "normal" eating resumed!

I am GRATEFUL for the Vesicare and tolerated its side-effects.

Still not helping me. I'm getting up three times a night. At least I haven't had the wetting problem again. I'm going to hang in there for the month worth of pills and then see what the Urologist thinks. Maybe my bladder just needs time to adjust. Squid.

Squid,

My husband had to go on Vesicare 5 MG. and it did wonders for him.
Had EXCESSIVE urgency after catheter removal, so started on Vesicare 2 monthes after RP and still on it as of now. Down to 1 pad daily.
Had no side effects and it started working within a couple of weeks.

SubicSquid--Yes, you may need a few days or a week for the Vesicare to kick in appropriately. Stay with it. It sure improved MY situation!

Oh, and I did get slightly blurry vision as a SE, too. I noticed, late at night when watching TV and my eyes got tired, that "things" weren't as clear as I would like them to be. Not noticeable during normal waking hours, however.

Possible success!!!! Last night was the first night in over 18 months I did not have to get up and pee. But, I still woke up twice, didn't feel the urge, and went back to sleep. Now if only my brain will relax like my bladder seems to be doing!! Squid.
