Had my Cytoscopy procedure a couple of days ago, it was a breeze, squirted some local anesthetic into my urethra through the tip of my penis and then 10 minutes later the catheter. Got to watch on the TV screen, all looked good and the surgeon recommended the Advance sling procedure. That's what I had hoped he would say so I'm pretty happy. Have to get a Urodynamics test done in August and then they'll set a surgery date. I can handle another 6 months of 2-3 pads a day since I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Surgeon has done about 75 sling installs and says about 50% totally dry, 25% almost dry and not sure what happened with the other 25%.

I'm sure looking forward to what is hopefully a dry outcome.

Why the long delay till August? Is that it your choice, or is the surgeon booked up? Wish you the best with that surgery
and procedure.

yeah.  thanks for that.  glad to see that getting scoped doesn't have to be like something out of the movie "hostel" cool .

Scoping can really vary, I will testify to the many I had in the past. For me, they were done under terrible circumstances, like severe strictures, inflamation, etc, so I am sure that factored into all of mine (I believe there were 4-6 of them for me) were like out of a horror movie. The real trick to me, is for the doctor to allow the lydacaine sufficeint time to numb. You need a good 10-15 minutes for it to have its full effect in most cases.

Reason for the delay is surgeon is fully booked, the cytoscopy was easy for me but it probably helps if you can relax everything as it goes in. I too was dreading the procedure but I guess the anticipation was worse than the actual act.

I wouldn't let them do it to me awake, OK I'm a coward they found nothing. I don't know what explains this bleeding.

Roger, and others... Cystoscopy is not really THAT big a deal. I have it done every 3 months due to recurring Malignant Bladder Tumors (another one of my blessings). Usually about 2-3 hours on the couch afterward, and I'm good to go.

Actually I've found out that they are a lot less uncomfortable now that I am without a prostate. GO FIGURE, a benefit of having PC. LOL

I'm with you, P_Elliott. In fact, I'd prefer that the doc not even TALK about a procedure, much less perform one, without putting me under! :-)

without the prostate, it is generally easier for the scope to exit the urethra and enter the walls of the bladder, plus the alignment is a bit straighter path once the prostate is removed. that helps with the scoping. in the "old days", they use to use hard, rigid scopes, with no flex, I can only imagine the pain that some of them caused.

I was terrified of the out come of the the test but it was negative I'm so relieved I don't think it has set in yet. I was sure it was going to be cancer two doctors indicated it.
